Fil-Kiwi Victoria Vincent spotlights Miss Universe ‘sisters’
Filipina Kiwi Miss Universe New Zealand, Victoria Velasquez Vincent, is a true multi-hyphenate. Not only is she a beauty queen, architect and heritage conservation advocate, but she’s also passionate about capturing stories through her camera lens.
At Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico, Vincent has brought along her camera—her “big baby”—and started documenting moments with her fellow contestants.
In an Instagram story, the Miss Universe Philippines Charity 2021 shared that while many know her as a pageant queen, she actually prefers being behind the camera.
To showcase this side of her, she’s starting a series where she captures portraits and videos of her Miss Universe sisters, sharing fun facts about each of them.
“Today, I brought out my big baby,” she said with a smile. “Many of you know that I probably enjoy being behind the camera more than in front of it. So, I’m starting a little series where I take portraits of my sisters and share a fun fact they’ve shared with me.”
First in her series is Miss Universe Peru, Tati Calmell. Fun fact about her? She practices tai chi whenever she feels anxious or unsettled.
“I start doing it even if I don’t have too much space in different places,” Calmell added. “I do the dance and come back to my center.”
Egypt’s Logina Salah followed, with Vincent sharing that Salah, though a bit clumsy, relies on her daughter to help keep track of their belongings.
Next, Portugal’s Andreia Correia was seen beaming in a video taken by Vincent, who revealed a humorous fact about Correia: She can’t eat spicy food, as it causes her lips to swell instantly—a challenge, considering her African mother loves cooking with spices.
Vincent has highlighted this project on her Instagram under the title “MU VVVision.”
Before being Miss Universe New Zealand, she recently competed in Miss Universe Philippines 2024, finishing as a top 10 finalist, while Chelsea Manalo took the crown.
Now, Vincent is reunited with Manalo and their fellow contestant, Great Britain’s Christina Dela Cruz Chalk, as they all share the international stage.
