Dubbed as the “last ecological frontier” of the Philippines, Palawan has once again captured the world’s imagination.
The island province, long celebrated for its pristine beaches, towering limestone cliffs and rich biodiversity, has been named the world’s best island to visit for 2025 by US News & World Report.
The publication has recently released its annual list of the 24 Best Islands to Visit, where Palawan proudly secured the top spot. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant marine life, the archipelago continues to lure both thrill-seekers and those in search of tranquility.
Highlighting Palawan’s allure, US News & World Report described it as a destination that “entices adventure seekers and beach bums alike” with its collection of more than 1,700 islands and islets.
The outlet further emphasized that each island featured on their list offers “a little something extra that keeps travelers enchanted – whether it’s impressive coastlines, immersive experiences or the ease of getting there.”
The report recommends that among Palawan’s must-visit experiences, travelers can swim in the crystal-clear waters of Kayangan Lake in Coron, explore the majestic lagoons of Bacuit Bay in El Nido and kayak through mystical caves along the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. For those preferring a laid-back escape, the serene beaches framed by limestone formations provide a perfect retreat.
The report also noted that the best time to visit Palawan is during its dry season, from November to May, when the weather is most favorable – though this is also when tourist traffic peaks. As such, visitors are encouraged to plan accommodations and tours well in advance.
Also featured on the 2025 list are Sardinia in Italy at No. 2 and Mauritius ranking third.
This latest recognition adds to Palawan’s growing list of accolades. In 2024, Palawan was named one of the world’s best islands to visit, placing 13th, while the Maldives took the top honor. Additionally, Palawan was recognized as Asia’s Best Cruise Destination for 2023 by World Cruise Awards.
