09:11 AM March 08, 2022

This 2022 March Madness is the final week for the schools across all states to boost their profiles for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. It’s not surprising the tally of bids went higher on Monday night. When Georgia State and Chattanooga won the Sun Belt tournament and SoCon titles.

Moreover, the 2022 Final Four will be held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on April 2-4. While the conference tournament championship will cap off this week, the battle for the no.1 seeds is on. Looking at Arizona, Gonzaga, Auburn, and Baylor as the top seeds, for now, other teams will fight for the spots. With Kansas, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Duke following on the No.2 line.

Here’s a closer look at the six conferences that’ll be big players for this 2022 March Madness.

March Madness No.2 Seeds

Wisconsin (24-6, 15-5 Big Ten)
Resume: Net: 20, KenPom: 26

Kansas (25-6, 14-4, Big 12)
Resume: Net: 7, KenPom: 9

Duke (26-5, 16-4 ACC)

Resume: Net: 9, KenPom: 6

Narrative: Kansas and Kentucky have the opportunity to turn the events around. However, it would depend on how Auburn and Baylor will play out the tournaments. The Jayhawks have a 17-5 record against Quad 1 and Quad 2. While the Wildcats have a better combination of Net/KenPom. Based on the game outcome last Saturday, some predictions will have the Dukes falling to a no.3. This is following their loss to North Carolina.

March Madness No. 3 Seeds

Tennessee (23-7, 14-4 SEC)
Resume: Net: 8, KenPom: 12

Villanova (23-7, 16-4 Big East)
Resume: Net: 6, KenPom: 10

Purdue (25-6, 14-6 Big Ten)
Resume: Net: 13, KenPom: 13

Providence (24-4, 14-3 Big East)
Resume: Net: 26, KenPom: 34

Narrative: If it’s not Providence, Villanova could make the moves to hit the No.2 line on the Big East Tournament Championship. After capping off the season on a four-game win, Tennessee elevates to the No.3 line. Their victories against Arkansas and Auburn are also a major factor.

March Madness No.4 Seeds

Arkansas (24-7, 13-5 SEC)
Resume: Net: 22, KenPom: 19

Texas Tech (23-8, 12-6 Big 12)
Resume: Net: 12, KenPom: 11

UCLA (23-6, 15-5 Pac-12)
Resume: Net: 11, KenPom: 8

Illinois (22-8, 15-5 Big Ten)
Resume: Net: 14, KenPom: 18

Narrative: With an 11-6 record against Quad 1 and 2, UCLA is on solid ground here. Texas’ losses at Oklahoma State and TCU spiraled them down at the No.4 line. Although their high rankings are enough to bring them up to No.3 again. Meanwhile, Arkansas needed at least one victory in the SEC tournament to hold the line.

March Madness No.5 Seeds

Texas (21-10, 10-8 Big 12)
Resume: Net: 17, KenPom: 15

Houston (26-5, 15-3 AAC)
Resume: Net: 3, KenPom: 5

UConn (22-8, 13-6 Big East)
Resume: Net: 19, KenPom: 20

Iowa (22-9, 12-8 Big Ten)
Resume: Net: 15, KenPom 14

Narrative: Before the American Athletic Conference tournament took place, Houston lost to Memphis. Despite high rankings, their loss pulled them down the seeding lines. While the Longhorns lost against Kansas. Which keeps them on the edge of the seeding.

March Madness No. 6 Seeds

USC (25-6, 14-6 Pac-12)
Resume: Net: 33, KenPom: 40

St. Mary’s (24-6, 12-3 WCC)
Resume: Net: 18, KenPom: 16

LSU (21-10, 9-9 SEC)
Resume: Net: 16, KenPom: 17

Ohio State (19-10, 12-8 Big Ten)
Resume: Net: 21, KenPom: 25

Narrative: Bothe the Buckeyes and the Tigers ended the season 3-3 in their last six games. With their fluctuating seasons evident on this line. Either one of them can both slide to an early exit on the tournaments. Moreover, USC finished the season with losses to UCLA and Arizona. Making it hard for the team to move a notch.
