A man in Massachusetts got lucky when he hit the jackpot of the state lottery, just months after his wife also won in a national draw.
Robert Goodwin won $1 million (almost P50 million) from the Massachusetts State Lottery on Monday. His wife, Jane, won the same amount last year from the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.
As he was claiming his prize, Goodwin chose the game’s cash option and had received a one-time payment of $650,000 (around P32.6 million), minus the withholding tax.
The store where he purchased the lucky ticket will get $10,000 as a bonus (around P502,000).
Meanwhile, Jane got her winning moment last August. She learned about her victory as she disembarked from a ferry in Plymouth, after a trip to Provincetown with a friend. The lottery company captured her surprise congratulatory moment in video.
When asked what he was planning to buy with his winnings, Goodwin said he intends to buy a home in an age-restricted community, “over-55.” His reason: “No more shoveling.”
Congratulations to the lucky couple! JB
