Introduction of CBD Oil to Ireland is Benefitting the Nation – Here’s How
Oil derived from cannabis plants is Cannabidiol oil (CBD). CBD is a chemical that is produced naturally in marijuana plants. Chemicals like these are called cannabinoids. Although it can be found in marijuana, it doesn’t produce the same intoxicating effect that is made by THC. THC is another popular cannabinoid found in marijuana.
Due to recreational marijuana usage being more prevalent, CBD oil and products made from cannabis have become controversial. This hasn’t stopped CBD oil from being seen for the health benefits that it can provide.
The following information will help you learn about the research regarding CBD. Moreover, here are six ways that it may be used for medical purposes.
1. Relief from Anxiety
Anxiety may be manageable with the help of CBD. Serotonin is an important chemical in the body that is related to mental health. Moreover, some research shows that the way receptors in the brain react to serotonin bay can be altered by CBD.
Receptors are simply small proteins that get chemical messages from cells when linking with them. This message reception is what causes stimulus responses in cells.
600mg of CBD oil was shown in one study to improve the speaking abilities of those with social anxiety. CBD studies were done with animals previously, and they revealed that in relation to anxiety relief, CBD:
- Causes stress reduction
- Lowers heart rate increases and other anxiety-related physiological effects
- Causes PTSD symptoms to improve
- Helps insomnia suffers sleep
2. Treatment for Seizures
There has been some news about the ability to treat epilepsy with CBD. The research surrounding this is still in its early phases. Nevertheless, the best CBD is being tested by researchers for its safety in epilepsy patients, and how effective it is in reducing seizures.
It is believed by the American Epilepsy Society that those who suffer from seizures might be able to benefit from the research being performed on cannabidiol, and safe usage will be possible as current research advances.
In 2016, a study was performed involving 214 epilepsy patients. These patients were already taking medications for epilepsy, but also added 2 to 5mg daily oral doses of CBD. A period of 12 weeks was used to monitor the participants of the study, with seizure frequencies and negative side effects being observed.
Each month, there were 36.5 percent fewer seizures with the group. Furthermore, 12 percent of those involved in the study had some severe adverse effects.
3. Neuroprotective CBD Oil
There is a particular receptor in the brain that is referred to as CBD1. This receptor is being monitored to see if neurodegenerative disorders can be treated with CBD. These disorders cause deterioration in the nerves and brain as time passes.
Possible treatments using CBD oil that researchers are looking into are:
- Strokes
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Alzheimer’s disease
Neurodegenerative symptoms can worsen with inflammation. Additionally, there is a possibility that this can be reduced with CBD oil. Just how big of an impact CBD oil can have on neurodegenerative diseases is unclear, and more research needs to be performed.
4. Relief from Pain
There is a good chance that pain receptors in the brain may be affected by CBD oil. Through studies with people who have gone through chemotherapy, cannabis taken after the treatments can be beneficial.
Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health has sponsored some studies to examine how cannabis treats symptoms related to:
- MS pain
- Chronic pain
- Arthritis
- Spinal cord injuries
- Muscle pain
In Canada and the United Kingdom, a drug named Nabiximols (Sativex) has been approved. This drug is a combination of CBD and THC. Additionally, it is used for multiple sclerosis pain treatments. Researchers believe the CBD component is working less to fight against pain and more to fight inflammation. In order to determine whether CBD is effective as a pain management option, more clinical trials have to be done.
5. Anti-acne
Inflammation commonly found in the body may be reduced as a result of immune system receptors interacting with CBD. This may result in acne management being done with CBD oil.
A published study noted that sebaceous glands activity was prevented with CBD oil. Sebum, an oily skin hydrating substance, is naturally produced in these glands. When there is too much sebum, acne can occur.
You should talk with a dermatologist before committing to using CBD oil to treat acne. We need more studies to get a better idea of how CBD can be used for acne treatments.
6. Treatment for Cancer
Research on cancer and CBD is still early. Nevertheless, there has been a lot focused on how the growth of cancer cells can be prevented with CBD. Cancer symptoms and side effects may be alleviated with CBD. This isn’t a full endorsement as a cancer treatment from the NCI.
However, the ability of CBD to tackle inflammation and affect cell reproduction has a promising outlook. Some tumor cells have even been shown to reproduce less with CBD.
