How CBD Works For Treating Your Stress or Anxiety
When broken down, cannabis contains many compounds that contribute to its overall effect. Two are well known and contribute vastly to the plant’s effects. These two are cannabidiol, known as CBD, and tetrahydrocannabinol, known as THC.
The THC in cannabis is what produces “high” associated with marijuana. CBD is what carries the more health beneficial effects that can be used in salves and supplements. CBD oil has been increasing in popularity since its health benefits have been coming more to light, and for good reason.
Uses of CBD Oil
There are those who will use CBD oil in salves to apply to arthritic joints to alleviate pain. Others will use it in a spray for their animals to calm them in overwhelming situations.
CBD oil has commonly been used to help alleviate cancer-related issues, including nausea and loss of appetite. Research has shown that CBD is helpful for many different ailments and provides a more natural solution.
CBD Research
Completed studies point to how CBD oil is beneficial for several disorders. The National Institute on Drug Abuse conducted a study that showed a reduction of behavioral signs of anxiety as well as physical symptoms.
Other studies have shown that CBD oil can potentially treat PTSD symptoms. PTSD is a disorder triggered by reminders of a traumatic event.
The Journal of Psychopharmacology published a study that tested the effects of CBD on patients who had symptoms of severe paranoia. They found that the CBD had no effect on the subjects’ heart rate, blood pressure or stress levels.
Stress is how the body handles harmful or risky situations, whether it is really a threat or not. When the body feels stressed, the brain will go through the “fight-or-flight” response. This includes a chemical reaction in the brain to prepare a person for what they will need to do next.
Physical symptoms of stress can include headaches, nervousness, aches, pains, and tense muscles. Chronic stress can cause harm to mental health problems like high blood pressure and heart attacks.

CBD Effects
Research on the use of cannabis showed that smoking may have a negative effect on health. CBD, however, has very few side effects. Compared to other medications, CBD may be a better option for someone who is struggling with the side effects of prescription medications. These side effects may include:
- Fatigue
- Mood changes
- Gastrointestinal discomfort
- Dizziness
- Fogginess
- Changes in appetite
- Dry mouth
- Drowsiness
A person should continue with their regular medications unless otherwise directed by a medical professional. Since the FDA does not regulate CBD products, there is no universal dosage for every individual. Users should start off low and gauge the levels that work best for them. There are possible interactions with medications and CBD oil, so it is always best to talk with a doctor prior to use.
Summary
CBD oil can seem like a miracle too good to be true. Research is looking to be promising but the topic is still quite controversial. While research continues, the best course of action is to talk with your medical doctor before taking CBD. As always, review your current state laws to ensure no laws are being broken.
Is CBD Legal? Hemp-derived CBD products (with less than 0.3 percent THC) are legal on the federal level but are still illegal under some state laws. Check your state’s laws and those of anywhere you travel. Keep in mind that nonprescription CBD products are not FDA-approved.
