CBD Effects: 5 Benefits Plus the Side Effects

/ 01:15 AM January 28, 2019

If you pay attention to wellness and natural remedy news, you’ve probably already heard about CBD oil. It has recently spiked in popularity and has become legal in many of the United States. Because of this increased CBD oil usage, many consumers are wondering about the CBD effects and CBD side effects.

Cannabidiol is a part of the cannabis plant that contains practically no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is present in the recreational form of marijuana, cannabis Sativa. Tetrahydrocannabinol THC is the compound responsible for the euphoric and hallucinogenic effects of marijuana.

However, both CBD and THC effects may have anti-inflammatory benefits in the user. CBD has no recreational or hallucinogenic effects, and is generally not considered to make the user “high.” However, CBD in high amounts can create a significant “relaxed” effect in the user, inducing potential drowsiness or dizziness.

THC and CBD – Active Ingredients

CBD is one of over 100 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. You can find CBD oil online, and it is currently legal in 30 states. This raises some interesting questions about the legality of CBD and CBD oil.

Interestingly, CBD derived by the hemp plant has been legalized by Congress. However, the Food and Drug Administration has yet to legalize the compound. On May 31, 2019, the FDA held a public hearing and determine that CBD should be legalized.

As of the 2018 Farm Bill, however, the cultivation and sale of hemp became federally legal. Hemp is the source of production for CBD. The cannabis plant getting legalized by the federal government is a huge step for CBD oil in the economy.

Another product on the market that many CBD enthusiasts are talking about is the famous CBD Oil gummies. The CBD gummies are available for purchase in dispensaries and medical cannabis shops in legal areas. CBD oil gummies are a great edible option to experiment with for the treatment of anxiety.

CBD gummies can be consumed to treat chronic pain or illness. These include headaches, insomnia, and inflammation arising from a variety of other problems. Like other CBD supplements, CBD oil gummies may produce unpleasant effects. The CBD oil side effects include nausea, dizziness, paranoia, extreme lethargy, and anxiety. Consuming the CBD gummies effects might be negative if consumed in excess.

Many cannabis and CBD users use edible CBD gummies for the various health benefits associated with CBD. Clinical trials continue to reveal the positive effects that CBD has on the endocannabinoid system. The active ingredients within these gummies are just CBD. So, you won’t have to worry about receiving any psychoactive effects from the product.

You can enjoy these medicinal treats while you watch your favorite movie or television show. These CBD snacks are also great for cleaning the house or doing chores. CBD in the cannabis plant is considered by many to be the true “medical marijuana.” CBD is not known for being hallucinogenic. However, the relaxed state created by the CBD may leave you craving a nap, or even a meal.

Popular brands/producers of gummies include BlosumCBD gummies. They are a good alternative to baked goods and are typically 100% vegan and organic. Cannabidiol product companies take pride in bringing a natural product to the marketplace that will leave individuals feeling better than before.

CBD Oil Benefits – CBD Effects

Cannabis and CBD oil are becoming known for the wide array of ailments that they can impact or benefit. CBD oil benefits range far and wide. Clinical trials are revealing the potential benefits of CBD on breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, insomnia, inflammation, depression, and even anxiety.

Many CBD users report experiencing reduced pain. This shows that the cannabis derivative is a great alternative for common painkillers. Other forms of painkillers are more damaging than CBD oil and CBD supplements.

The effects of CBD have sparked the belief that it might alter the health of users. This is a very complex biological system that is responsible for the maintenance of several parts of your health. The cannabinoids in hemp or cannabis interact with the human body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).

The ECS contains its own cannabinoid receptors, with which CBD oil interacts with. This results in the ECS getting additional support in its functions which vary from pain response, the immune system, digestive processes, and the like.

Furthermore, research points out that there is a very high possibility of cannabis influencing important roles such as sleeping, mood swings, metabolic processes, and other functions. Consumers who consult medical professionals and continually use the recommended products and dosage of CBD can improve their wellbeing.

Every individual reacts differently to CBD. This makes finding the correct CBD form and dosage all the more important if your desired effect is specific to your health.

The Science of Cannabis – Medical Marijuana

Our body creates neurotransmitters called “endocannabinoids” which bind to naturally occurring cannabinoid receptors in our brain. This system, known as the endocannabinoid system, regulates many bodily functions including the sleep and wake cycle.

CBD oil affects the endocannabinoid system, and this is why it has an impact on inflammation, mental health, and the other ailments tested for in clinical trials. Cannabis sativa, the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of the cannabis plant, also acts on the endocannabinoid system. However, CBD oil affects the endocannabinoid system differently, not creating any recreational effects on the user.

A set of clinical trials were conducted that included people suffering from a social anxiety disorder. The primary anxiety of the individuals was the fear of public speaking. One group was given a placebo treatment, and 24 individuals were given 600mg of CBD oil. The group that had taken the oil showed significantly reduced cognitive impairment, and anxieties surrounding public speaking were substantially reduced.

CBD oil has also shown promising effects on depression. It has been proven that, after ingested, CBD raises the level of serotonin in the body. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood and behavior in human beings. Many people prefer CBD oil to typical pharmaceutical options, as the cannabis plant is a more natural alternative. The claims aren’t fully backed up by clinical trials yet. However, many people believe that CBD oil is a more balanced and gentle form of medical treatment.

CBD may be beneficial to people struggling with addiction. While analyzing a score of previous studies, the researchers concluded that CBD may serve as a therapy source to people who have been struggling with cocaine, opioid, coffee intake, and other psychostimulant addictions.

Finally, on the addiction effects of CBD, a measure of evidence showed that CBD oil may prevent or minimize the effects of THC on the mind. This makes it a viable remedy in that regard.

CBD for Physical Health

Another potential benefit of CBD oil is its use for the treatment of high blood pressure. Researchers conducted a set of clinical trials in healthy men that were given CBD oil for blood pressure. Men who used CBD oil as part of the clinical trials experienced reduced blood pressures and stress levels. The same group of men was given a ‘stress test’ to gauge the CBD oil effects; surprisingly, the stress levels of the men that had been given CBD oil were substantially reduced.

When taken on an empty stomach, CBD oil can work in as little as 20 minutes. You can find the oil in pill form, or as a tincture. The tinctures allow you to administer the CBD by placing a few drops under your tongue or in a beverage. CBD oils and tinctures are an easier way to dose CBD without the uncertainty of a CBD edible of CBD gummy. The CBD oil tincture can be administered in the proper ratio to avoid excessive sleepiness, drowsiness, or lethargy. The CBD negative side effects are considered minor. Usually, people who have consumed too much CBD oil fall asleep or have difficulty being active during the day.

However, a popular use for CBD Oil is to promote better sleep. The active ingredients within the cannabis plant, including CBD, are known for inducing a sleep state in the user. I have personally experimented with CBD oil to promote a more restful sleeping state, and experienced a great night’s rest. However, CBD oil shouldn’t be taken too much, as you may find yourself having trouble falling asleep without it. Regardless, compared to tetrahydrocannabinol THC, the CBD oil side effects are considered by many to be minor. The benefits of CBD oil effects have been strong in many casual users.

CBD for Epilepsy

In regards to epilepsy, CBD has been shown to provide substantial relief from symptoms of epilepsy in patients with the disorder. In 2015 there was a law passed allowing clinical trials in Alabama to research cannabidiol, widely known as Carly’s Law. The University of Alabama conducted a study in which they discovered that seizure frequency was drastically reduced when CBD was supplemented. They had 132 patients for this survey, 60 adults and 72 children. Patients had intractable epilepsy, and prior forms of treatment proved to be ineffective.

They had patients tested at 3 months, 6 months, and lastly at 11 months. Baseline seizure rates were recorded. The mean between all 132 patients at the beginning of these clinical trials was 144 seizures within 2 weeks. The addition of CBD oil had reduced the mean to a rate of 52 seizures within a 2-week time frame. This remained consistent for the duration of the trial. These results speak to the benefits of the CBD effects.

There is more in terms of the benefits of CBD. CBD is a remedy for a variety of health conditions. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of CBD for a certain form of epilepsy. The drug, Epidiolex, can treat seizures related to a couple of uncommon and severe forms of epilepsy in patients with a minimum age of two years.

It is a big help for patients diagnosed with Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. The approval of Epidiolex is a huge milestone in the history of medical marijuana as a solution provider to health issues as it is the first FDA approved drug with a refined drug substance that is formed from marijuana.

Beyond that, there are still other positive health benefits of CBD oil. The legalization of hemp-derived CBD pushed for more research. Experts are hopeful for CBD’s positive effects on cancer, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s. It is only a matter of time before scientific research can back up these claims.

CBD for Pets

Another use for CBD which is only recently becoming popular is its use for the treatment of many pet illnesses. CBD supplements are emerging in dispensaries and CBD shops that are used in pets.

CBD may assist with old age pains in dogs. Joint pain and inflammation are a few suggested benefits, and the supplement may also curb your pet’s anxieties.

What Are CBD and What Are the Benefits?

CBD for Multiple Sclerosis

CBD may have beneficial effects on people suffering from multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic ailment that affects the nerves and cells within one’s body. CBD was shown to provide long-lasting protection against the degenerative effects of multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis is associated with inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS). This inflammation affects the brain, spinal cord, and the protective material around cells, called the myelin sheaths.

CBD oil affects the nervous system with its potent anti-inflammatory effects. The anti-inflammatory action of CBD oil can combat multiple sclerosis. Additionally, many patients with the ailment have experienced lesser symptoms. Additionally, many multiple sclerosis patients experience an improved quality of life from CBD oil supplements.

CBD for Anxiety

CBD oil effects anxiety positively, as many people with social anxiety, general anxiety, and agoraphobia have experienced daily relief.

Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder where the individual experiences severe pain or anxiety. Anxiety occurs in certain places during certain daily events. Anxiety disorder can greatly impact an individual’s quality of life. Usually, they are less likely to leave the house and experience life to the fullest.

Fortunately, CBD supplementation and CBD oil have shown groundbreaking effects on symptoms of anxiety. People with a social anxiety disorder (SAD) have experienced positive relaxing effects from CBD. I have personally tried the supplement for this purpose, and have noticed a significant reduction in anxiety symptoms throughout the day. It can be described as taking off “the edge.” However, the CBD oil side effects may become present if used too much or too often. You may notice yourself ‘drifting’ off during conversation or craving a nap.

CBD Oil Side Effects

cbd gummies benefits

CBD Oil is generally safe and considered a natural alternative for many medications and supplements. One thing that is important to note is that CBD does have a history of interacting with other medications. Be sure to speak with a professional health care provider about CBD as an option in your health treatment plan.

One of the main classes of drugs that CBD can interact with negatively is epileptic drugs. More specifically, children’s epileptic medication can interact negatively with CBD oil.

Side effects of CBD oil are very few and rare. If something is produced wrong, there may be more of a chance you will have a bad reaction. This is another reason that finding the best and most transparent brand is important. Some individuals are known to have negative reactions to CBD and may experience CBD side effects. However, success with CBD is always dependent on individual differences, and may not be the right supplement for you.

Some of the negative side effects of CBD change in appetite, dizziness, vomiting, or change in mood. There are also concerns that CBD can potentially increase enzymes in your liver but there is no scientific proof at this time, CBD oil for inflammation is one of the best natural supplements you can take. Cannabis is still undergoing research and clinical trials and is not fully understood as a nutritional/medical supplement.

Hemp Oil Side Effects

  • Before you consume CBD products, it’s necessary to consider its side effects. Though these side effects only occur in the worst-case scenarios, it is wise to speak with a medical professional regarding CBD usage.
  • Dry mouth: Anytime you use CBD oil, in any form, your endocannabinoid system inhibits the secretion of saliva, which causes your mouth to go dry. Before, during, and after using CBD you should drink water or juice. Over the course of using CBD oil, you have to increase your water intake.
  • Decreased Blood Pressure: Research shows that higher doses of CBD oil cause a mild decrease in blood pressure. So, consuming CBD-infused drugs is a bad idea for those with low blood pressure.
  • Sedation: CBD products have a sedating effect on some consumers, and induce a wakeful state in others. Here, genetics plays a vital role. If CBD makes you drowsy, ensure you’re not driving or operating heavy machinery while using the substance.
  • Light-headedness: As mentioned earlier, CBD is linked to low blood pressure, which causes light-headedness. To recover from this state, drink a caffeinated beverage.
  • Reduced activity of T and B Cells: High dosages of CBD oil have been linked with reduced T and B Cells. T cells fight virus-infected cells, and B Cells synthesize antibodies, both of which strengthen the body’s immunity. The reduction in T and B Cells would lower your body immunity and make you susceptible to diseases.
  • Decreased Fertility: Though CBD improves fertility by reducing stress, CBD overdose can have a reverse effect. Like smoking, taking too much of CBD cells can reduce fertility in males and females. However, those affected may recover within a year of quitting.
  • Reduced p-Glycoprotein activity: p-Glycoprotein is known for conferring multiple drug resistance by ejecting a vast array of anti-cancer agents. Extremely large amounts of CBD causes the p-Glycoprotein activity to decrease.
  • Reduced activity of Cytochrome P450 (CYP450) Enzyme: Studies show that cytochrome p450 enzymes metabolize CBD while acting as a competitive inhibitor. CBD then occupies the site of enzymatic activity and stops cytochrome P450 from performing its functions.

SUMMARY

CBD is making a significant impact both on the global marketplace and the health industry. Cannabidiol is being touted for its various benefits, and even the legality of the compound is even beginning to change. The Farm Bill of 2018 made hemp a legal cash crop recognized by the Federal Government. This is a huge step for America in regards to hemp and marijuana policy. Hemp is thought to reach a market value of around $22 billion by 2022.

Be sure to do your research, as CBD oil clinical trials are always revealing new information on the topic. If you experience any of these symptoms it is important to stop right away. CBD oil has not been tested enough to know if any of the side effects are serious or harmful, and there are more good outcomes than there are bad.
