Criminologist Reveals Serial Killers’ Ideal Hunting Grounds

/ 03:53 AM March 21, 2023

A real-time crime author and criminologist from the UK has exposed serial killers’ ideal hunting grounds.

Christopher Berry-Dee, who has had close encounters with dangerous murderers, says the internet is a powerful tool for criminals to pick out victims.

“Many serial killers act like John Edward Robinson, the first known killer to utilize the internet for serial killings.

Like Robinson, who from 1985 to 2000 has been linked to the deaths of eight women,” Berry-Dee told The Sun.

Robinson would go into chat rooms online “under false identities,” pretending to be a businessman, for example, to lure “women who are lonely to his place,” and strike.

Serial killers, as the criminologist explained, can use the internet to access other twisted and dark online communities.

“When the internet is underestimated, It potentially becomes a hunting ground for predators,” Berry-Dee said.

“It’s a dangerous place, the internet,” he added. Since people use it for everything, so do these killers.

“Be it fraudsters or men who take advantage of lonely women…it goes way back.” Known as the “Want-Ad serial killer,” Harvey Carignan utilized paper adverts to search for victims needing help.

He passed away earlier this month in detention, where he was doing time for killing three women in Alaska and Minnesota about 50 years ago.

Martha Jule Beck and Raymond Martinez, the “Lonely Hearts Killers,” got their victims from singles who advertised in newspapers.

Many speculated they were responsible for about 20 murders, but the jury convicted them for only one. They were executed in 1951 at Sing Sing Prison in New York.

Like Jeffrey Dahmer, the notorious serial killer, Chase Seneca used Grindr. The popular app was for gay men seeking dates.

Last year, Seneca pleaded guilty to the attempted murder and kidnapping of a gay man. He bagged 45 years in prison for both.

Authorities reported he planned to consume and preserve his victims’ bodies as Dahmer did.

In Chicago during the 70s, John Wayne Gacy was responsible for 33 young boys and men dying. He targeted teenagers and male prostitutes who sought jobs in his company and sometimes hitchhikers.

Berry-Dee said, “Gacy knew just where to look. He knew exactly where these vulnerable people were.” Even with advancements in technology, serial killers have stuck to their approach.

“Like animals, they find their hunting ground where their sure ‘prey’ could be,” said Berry-Dee. The killers lay in wait and are “patient” till they “strike.”

“They are aware of locations their intended target swim in shoals. They identify them, watch them and wait,” he added.

He continued, “They will pick the weaker or the isolated one from the herd, the one making for the taxi in the rain.”

Berry-Dee, the author of the popular book Murder.com, also said, “They are patient, and they will strike, and that’s it — they are dead.”

Social media platforms can become tools for serial killers. They could stalk victims to get their routines and habits.
