Jeffrey Dahmer’s Apartment: What Happened to It After His Arrest?
If you haven’t heard of Jeffrey Dahmer before, you might wonder why we’re so concerned with his apartment. Jeffrey Dahmer was popularly known as a notorious American serial killer who, between 1978 and 1991, claimed the lives of 17 men and boys. His crimes recently reached a new level of attention, thanks to the hit Netflix show “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”
Many of his murders involved eating men’s flesh, known as cannibalism, having sexual intercourse with corpses, known as necrophilia, and preserving their body parts, including all or parts of their skeleton. In a word, he drugged, strangled, and dismembered many of his victims.
He was able to commit this brutal crime for over a decade due to police negligence and their failure to believe his neighbor’s complaint of suspicious behavior. And the majority of his horrific crimes were done in his apartment. We’ll discuss where Dahmer lived, what happened, what was found there, and if the apartment is still there.
Where Did Jeffrey Dahmer Live?
Before his parents, Lionel and Joyce Dahmer, got divorced, Jeffrey and his brother David Dahmer lived with them. After his parent got divorced, Joyce left with David, and Jeffrey was left alone for about three months. It was during this time that he committed his first murder.
When his father realized he was alone, he got him admitted to Ohio University, but he was dismissed due to poor grades. He was later enlisted in the army but was discharged from the army due to his drinking problem.
As a result, Lionel (his father) was unwilling to keep supporting him financially and made Jeffrey work for himself while staying with his grandmother.
Catherine Jemima Hughes, Jeffrey Dahmer’s grandmother, lived at 2357 South 57th street in a suburb near downtown Milwaukee called West Allis. Jeffrey Dahmer lived and committed murder in this home, and his grandmother claimed to be entirely unaware.
In September 1988, Jeffrey left his grandmother’s house and moved into an apartment at 808 North 24th street, where he started living alone again. He did not stop committing crimes. Of course, his heinous crimes were innumerable.
After a year and a half, he relocated to 924 North 25th street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His home was at the 49th-unit building known as Oxford Apartment, and he stayed there for 14 months. He moved into the house in May 1990 and moved out when he was arrested on July 22, 1991.
What Happened at 924 North 25th Street?
Within three years (from when Jeffrey Dahmer left his grandmother’s house until his arrest), he killed fourteen young men and mutilated their bodies in his small flat. His last apartment was not left out. He drugged, strangled, and dismembered many of his victims in the Oxford Apartment at 924 North 25th Street.
It was in this apartment that many of Dahmer’s horrific crimes took place. The Netflix miniseries of “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story revealed what Jeffrey’s apartment looks like.” He had the vintage fish tank, a battered beige couch, a tiny analog television, a roll of carpet on the floor, and a barrel for acid.
In 1992, 15 months after Dahmer was arrested, human remains were found in this apartment, and it was destroyed by the Campus Circle Project, a public/private organization affiliated with Marquette University. They purchased this apartment for $325,000, but it had remained vacant because every effort to put something in the space had been floundered, so it is surrounded by a fence today.

How Tracy Edwards ended Dahmer’s killing spree once and for all
If not for Tracy Edwards, it would have taken a long time for the police to discover Jeffrey Dahmer. He was the last victim that escaped from Dahmer after he accepted his offer to pose for nude photographs.
When Edwards entered Dahmer’s apartment, he noticed several boxes of hydrochloric acid on the floor and perceived a foul odor. That was the beginning of his suspicion, but Dahmer claims he uses the acid to clean blocks.
During their conversation, Dahmer successfully cuffed both of his wrists and was willing to eat his heart. However, Edwards deceived him into removing his handcuff and escaped through the front door after punching him in the face. It was that night that he reported to two police officers.
What Did the Police Find at Jeffrey Dahmer’s Apartment?
Edwards directed them to Dahmer’s apartment, where they discovered something suspicious. Dahmer fought with them, but they overpowered him and handcuffed him. They later found a severed head on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.
The Milwaukee police Criminal Investigation Bureau searched further and found several things. These included four more severed heads in Dahmer’s kitchen, a tray of blood dripping from the refrigerator, and seven skulls, some bleached or painted.
Further investigation found a part of an arm wrapped in plastic bags and two human hearts on the refrigerator shelves. Also, at the bottom of Dahmer’s freezer, a bag of human organs, a torso, and flesh were frozen in ice.
They also discovered a pair of severed arms, a mummified scalp, two severed penises, and three more torsos dissolving in acid in the 57-gallon drum in his apartment.
The dismemberment of every of Dahmer Dahmer’s victims was found detailed in the Polaroid photographs he had. The chief medical examiner of his case said that rather than an actual crime scene, it was more like dismantling someone’s museum.
Is Jeffrey Dahmer’s Apartment Still There?
The Oxford Apartment where Jeffrey Dahmer lived no longer exists. After Dahmer’s arrest and the tenants realized what had happened, many of them moved out of the apartment, and no one was willing to rent the apartment, and neither did the complex rent out to other people.
After the human remains in Dahmer’s apartment were discovered, the entire building was demolished. The demolition took place 15 months after his arrest at the request of the victim’s families in November 1992.
Currently, the space is deserted and surrounded by a fence. There are no plans to convert it into an apartment complex. It will also not be converted into a playground or a memorial site.
Can You Visit the Site of the Murders?
Yes, you can if you wish to. Only you won’t find anything attractive there, and you cannot go inside the building because it is an empty lot. The only thing you can do is drive past it to have a better view.
Conclusion
Jeffrey Dahmer’s neighbors said they had noticed the smell emanating from him and his apartment for about a year that he had lived in there. A neighbor said, “The smell was like garbage. He smelled like garbage, and I thought he was into collecting garbage.”
“I only see him a few times, and I didn’t know much about him. He looked like a whacked-out dude every time I saw him,” said the neighbor.
After Dahmer’s secrets were revealed, according to the evidence found in his room, he confessed to one of the policemen that came to his apartment, “I should be dead for what I did.” Dahmer pled guilty but insane to 15 counts of murders on January 13, 1992.
Although he was diagnosed with schizotypal personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and psychotic disorder, at his trial, Dahmer was legally sane.
