Blake Lively Almost Got Amanda Seyfried’s Role In ‘Mean Girls’
Amanda Seyfried said the cast of “Mean Girls” might have been different. She said Blake Lively almost got her lead role as Karen Smith.
She told Vanity Fair she initially auditioned for the role of Regina George, which eventually went to Rachel McAdams.
Casting director Marci Liroff told Cosmopolitan UK that Blake Lively was a top pick for the role of Karen Smith. However, film producer Lorne Micheals chose Amanda Seyfried instead.

Amanda Seyfried explained how Blake Lively almost played Karen Smith during a Vanity Fair interview.
She said, “I’d flown out to LA for the first time with my mother. It was very exciting.”
“I met Lacey Chabert for the first time, and Lindsay Lohan was in the room, and Blake Lively was playing Karen, and then I was Regina.”
Seyfried left the room thinking she would receive a call informing her whether she got the part of Queen Bee, a.k.a. Regina George.
However, the Emmy-winning actress received a different offer. “I flew home, and they were like, ‘We think you’re more correct for Karen,’” Seyfried stated.
She responded, “Oh god, okay, sure.” Also, Mean Girls casting director Marci Liroff revealed to Cosmopolitan UK that Blake Lively was the top pick for the role of Smith.
Liroff said, “She came down to the final tests but, at some point, some of the filmmakers said to keep looking.”
“Amanda Seyfried had read for Regina, and we really liked her,” he said. However, Liroff said film producer Lorne Micheals recommended choosing Seyfried to play Karen Smith.
Seyfried explained why Karen Smith became a beloved character in the film.
The Les Misérables star said, “she is just being brutally honest, and it’s so beautiful, and it’s what makes her so endearing.”
“She’s not that smart, but she totally knows it. And everything she reacts to is just her truth, her true reaction,” she added.
On September 15, 2022, Blake Lively announced she was pregnant with her fourth child with her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
