The Manila International Film Festival also shared the news with immense pride. In a video posted on their official account, MIFF captured the moment Salonga’s name was announced by radio and TV personality Richard Blade.
“From Miss Saigon to Les Misérables and beyond, Lea’s legendary voice and impact continue to inspire generations,” the caption read. “We’re especially thrilled that her nomination was supported by the Manila International Film Festival, recognizing her incredible influence in both theater and global Filipino representation.”
What makes this milestone even more meaningful is that Salonga becomes the first Filipina to receive the recognition and the fourth honoree with Filipino roots, following the footsteps of comedian Rob Schneider, global pop sensation Bruno Mars and Apl.de.Ap of Black Eyed Peas.
