Murphy had a brief acceptance speech and thanked everyone who had helped him. “I want to say thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for bestowing this prestigious honor on me. I’ve been in show business for 46 years, and I’ve been in the movie business for 41 years, so this has been a long time in the making, and it is greatly appreciated.”
The comedian then ended his acceptance speech with three pieces of advice to fellow artists. “Pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your fucking mouth.” The audience laughed and applauded him on his last remark. He was referring to the major incident at the 2022 Oscars.
