Canadians Can Now Order Cannabis Delivery Through Uber Eats

/ 09:07 AM October 19, 2022

More countries have been legalizing marijuana nowadays. Canada is one example. Uber Eats Canada now delivers weed products to customers in the city of Toronto. The platform says this feature is the first for “a major third-party delivery platform.”

Users have been able to order cannabis with the app since November 2021. However, they must head to the stores to get their items. Now, Uber Eats has collaborated with the cannabis education website Leafly to provide this service.

Start by opening the Uber Eats app and its “Cannabis” option. Then, you will receive a warning that you must be of legal age to use the feature. The legal age in the area is 19 years old and above.

Next, select a retailer and your products. Shivaa’s Rose, Minerva Cannabis, and Hidden Leaf Cannabis were the first retailers to register with the app. Consequently, you might notice they are the top choices.

The interface would look similar to the one for food deliveries. Confirm your purchase and check if the retailer has accepted your order.

Unlike regular food deliveries, your goods will not be delivered by Uber drivers. Instead, the store will send one of its employees to your delivery location.

These employees are all certified by Ontario’s cannabis retail education program, CannSell. The employee will check your age and sobriety before handing your items.

Lola Kassim, the general manager for Uber Eats Canada, said the following about its weed delivery:

“First and foremost, we see this as a critical piece to helping discourage impaired driving, and secondly, this is just another initiative that can help combat the illegal cannabis market, which still makes up more than 40 percent of cannabis sales in Ontario today.”

“So, we’re providing an option that goes beyond in-store, that goes beyond pickup, and it’s also an option for consumers on a platform like Uber Eats, which many Torontonians already know and love and also is built on, you know, trust and safety.”

Conclusion

Canada’s weed industry continues to grow. Ontario Cannabis Store said the number of marijuana shops in the province rose to 1,460 in March. Also, OCS said there were only 1,333 in 2021.

Cannabis legalization has been expanding in other parts of the world. For example, New York State allows personal use for adults 21 years or older.
