Kim Kardashian’s Divorce from Kanye West is Officially Finalized

/ 09:40 AM March 03, 2022

Kim Kardashian is now officially a single woman. A US court granted her appeal to be legally separated from Kanye West. The judge at Los Angeles County Superior Court granted a motion for her to change her name. Kim K’s surname is now Kardashian only. The West is omitted. On Wednesday’s hearing, Kim Kardashian appeared in a video link.

With her hair pulled back and wearing a plain black top, Kardashian reaffirmed her request to dissolve the marriage due to ‘irreconcilable’ differences and reclaim her single status was still valid.

During the court hearing on Wednesday, Kim presented herself through a video call. At the same time, her lawyer Laura Wasser was in court. Although Kanye West was absent, his lawyer didn’t make any objections. To reclaim Kim’s single status.

However, Kanye’s lawyer presented 3 conditions.

  1. Any right to get reimbursement of money that’s supposed to be divided will be preserved if either of them dies. The judge granted this condition.
  2. If Kim remarries, she will waive the marital privilege. This means the new spouse would not have to testify about communications with her. The judge said no to this.
  3. Kim would not transfer any assistance she had in trust. Again, the judge rejected this.

Before closing up the hearing, Kim answered a series of questions. These “prove up” questions include “Do you think your marriage can be saved with counseling?” “Are there problems in your relationship?”

Kim answered “Yes” directly to the first question and “No” to the next. A reliable source told TMZ that Kanye West wants the divorce to be settled.

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021. Their marriage lasted for six years with four children together.

The former couple has been in public social media banters since their separation. Kanye West, also known as Ye, mostly appears to be on top trending news.

Divorce Progression

Kardashian recently claimed that her ex-husband’s Instagram posts had caused her immense emotional distress. This is following Kanye’s public Instagram post referencing their marriage. And her new relationship with Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson.

According to the documents TMZ collected, Kim stated. “I very much desire to be divorced.”

The Skims boss told the judge that she asked West to keep matters about their split-up private.

Kanye, 44, has been posting a lot of misinformation about their co-parenting and other private matters on social media, which has led to Kardashian, 41, having emotional distress. The document stated.

At the start of this year, West was dating Uncut Gems star Julia Fox. They went out in public together on several occasions. This includes a sighting of the pair at Paris Fashion Week. However, he is now dating model Chaney Jones. With the two postings officially on Instagram.

Meanwhile, during the divorce case proceedings, West fired the third lawyer. His attorney Chris Melcher confirmed that he had parted ways with the rapper. Moreover, he now has Samantha Spector as his fourth divorce lawyer.

Laura Wesser, who is representing Kardashian, has accused West. He is “strategically” changing his legal lawyers to delay the divorce proceedings.

During the court proceedings, a judge heard disagreements about Kardashian’s request to change her status to single as the main divorce proceedings are still in progress.

Last month, there’s also a report that West had filed a legal document opposing Kardashian’s changing of her name back to her birth name – Kimberly Noel Kardashian.

West’s lawyer seems to object because if the judge agrees, Kim Kardashian could remarry. With this, Kim K could move some of their joint assets into separate accounts.

West was reportedly happy for Kim obtaining her single status on a positive note. Even if Kardashian’s marital status is now single, divorce details still need sorting out. This involves their property and child custody.
