LOS ANGELES – Following months of rumors about marital strife, singer Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce Tuesday from actor Ben Affleck.

The power couple were initially engaged to be married in the early 2000s but parted ways before ever tying the knot. Lopez instead married singer Marc Anthony and was briefly engaged to baseball slugger Alex Rodriguez, while Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner.

But Lopez and Affleck were both back on the market in 2021 when they rekindled their relationship. The pair were married on July 16, 2022.

Documents submitted in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by TMZ indicated that Lopez filed the petition without an attorney, and with no indication of a prenuptial agreement.

The marriage was the fourth for Lopez, 55, and the second for Affleck, 52.

According to court papers, the couple officially separated on April 26, TMZ reported.

Rumors began to circulate about trouble in the marriage when People reported that the pair had not been photographed together publicly for more than 47 days.

At the time, the couple had not been spotted together since March 30 in New York City, when they were seen holding hands.

In late May, Lopez announced the cancellation of her summer concert tour. Officials with Live Nation said at the time that she was “taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.”

In a message posted on her OntheJLo website, Lopez wrote in May, “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary.”

“I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again,” she wrote.

The tour had been scheduled to include Southland stops on July 11 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, July 13 at Honda Center in Anaheim and July 19 at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert. (With CNS report)
