Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck officially tie the knot in Las Vegas

/ 10:46 AM July 18, 2022

On Saturday, the superstar couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck married at a Las Vegas chapel. The couple also waited and fell in line alongside four other couples. This news was confirmed by a Clark County, Nevada, marriage license office. The wedding happened just months after their engagement revelation in April 2022.

The newly-wed couple started dating in the early 2000s. They broke up after that and spent 17 years living their own separate lives. Then, last year, the two started rekindling their love.

A reliable source told PEOPLE that the couple exchanged vows in a “small” ceremony. “It was super, super small. They just wanted to be married, so they got married.”

On Sunday, JLo posted on Lopez’s fan newsletter, “we did it.” The Argo actor and Marry Me singer and actress flew to Vegas to go to a chapel. The couple arrived before midnight.

She said, “Behind us, two men held hands and held each other. In front of us, a young couple who made the three-hour drive from Victorville on their daughter’s second birthday – all of us wanting the same thing- for the world to recognize us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage.”

The couple also said, “It was the best possible wedding we. Ould have imagined. One we dreamed of long ago and one made real.”

Lopez, 52, shared the difference in their connection now compared to what they had in their previous relationship. “We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things.”

She has 14-year-old twins with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. While Affleck has three kids with his former wife, Jennifer Garner.

Lopez also shared, “It’s a beautiful outcome that has happened in this way in our lives where we can appreciate and celebrate each other and respect each other. We always did, but we appreciate it even more because we know that life can take you in different directions.”

She continued, “We have been in the game in the public eye long enough to know who we are as people and what matters and what doesn’t matter. We have kids, and we respect each other. Also, we live our lives in a way we can be proud of love and respect for everyone in our lives, and that is very important to us. We know what the truth is, and we hold it sacred.”

Lopez also shared her excitement about her green diamond engagement ring back then. “Green has always been my lucky color. And now, for sure, it always will be. Two fortunate people. Who got a second chance at true love.”

Moreover, Affleck told a WSJ Magazine interview via PEOPLE in December how he felt so lucky to have second chances. He is referring to both his personal life and work.

Affleck said, “I’ve had second chances in my career. I’ve had second chances as a human being. Life is difficult; we are always failing and hopefully learning from those failures. The one thing you need to avail yourself of the opportunities provided by that growth is a second chance. I’ve tried to take advantage of that. I haven’t always been successful, but in cases I have, they’ve turned out to be the defining aspects of my life.”
