Filipino actor nominated for Chicago acting awards
CHICAGO – Filipino actor Van Ferro has been nominated for two awards at the regional Chicago BroadwayWorld Awards.
Ferro is up for Best Supporting Performer in a Play for his critically acclaimed performance in Shipwrecked; and Best Supporting Performer in a Streaming Musical for his role in The Sigman Brother’s Rip Van Winkle.
“I hope to open more varied roles for Filipinos in American theater,” said Ferro. “We have range. We’re capable of more than being typecast performing Miss Saigon again and again.”
Ferro is up for Best Supporting Performer in a Play for his critically acclaimed performance in Shipwrecked; and Best Supporting Performer in a Streaming Musical for his role in The Sigman Brother’s Rip Van Winkle.
Currently leading in both votes as of Nov. 26, if he wins either award Ferro will be the first Filipino to take home one of these coveted awards. As it stands, he is the first Filipino nominated for the regional audience awards since Rachelle Ann Go’s 2018 win at the UK/West End edition of the BroadwayWorld Awards. Voting ends December 31, 2021. The winner of the awards will be announced sometime in January 2022.
