Oprah Special: Adele reveals all on her divorce, being single, and more

/ 11:19 AM November 15, 2021

Adele, the London-based prominent singer whose songs have been hitting the charts has sat down with Oprah. The interview venue was also the same spot where Oprah interviewed Duchess Meghan and Duke Harry.

As part of Adele’s marketing campaign for her new album, 30, she appeared at the Oprah Winfrey show on Monday. While the record-breaking artist is successful with her singing career, her life struggles are something she revealed to the Queen of America.

The chart-topper opened up her life battles. Adele opened up to Oprah about her struggles in divorce, juggling her career, and being a “single parent”.

In this exclusive interview with Oprah, the singer expresses her embarrassment on her divorce. Adele also mentioned that she felt she had “disrespected” the idea of marriage. IN 2018, the star separated from her husband, Simon Konecki.

Adele said, “I’ve been obsessed with a nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one.” The singer’s father left them when she was only 2 years old.

The singer added, “From a very young age, I promised myself that, when I had kids, we’d stay together. And I tried for a really, really long time.”

The 33-year-old hitmaker also revealed that she first realized her marriage was shaky when she took a personality test in a magazine.

Although Adele’s marriage with Konecki lasted for 8 years, the marriage and separation both happened in the same year, 2018.

Adele added sadly, “I take marriage very seriously.. and it seems like I don’t know. Almost like I disrespected it by getting married and then divorced so quickly. I’m embarrassed because it was so quick.”

She also revealed that she had “terrifying anxiety attacks” after her divorce. This was the main reason why she adopted an exercise routine. It led to her losing 100lb in just two years.

Her divorce struggles

While the release of some excerpts from the interview was on Sunday evening, she explains that some of the songs reflect the aftermath of her divorce. Oprah also didn’t miss asking Adele about some of the “dark lyrics”.

Oprah reads lyrics to Adele from the song “Hold On”. She asked, “What was going on there?”

“I’m such a mess/The harder that I try I guess/ I am my own worst enemy/ Right now, I truly hate being me,” Oprah cited the lyrics.

Adele replied, “My friends always would say ‘hold on’ when I would feel like the lyrics in the verse. But it was just exhausting trying to keep going with it. It’s a process; the process of divorce, the process of being a single parent, the process of not seeing your child every single day wasn’t really a plan that I had when I became a mum.”

“The process of arriving for yourself every single day, turning yourself up every single day. And still running a home, a business so many people know what I’m talking about and I feel like that as well, I juggled those things as well. And I felt like not doing it anymore. It made my feet hurt, walking through all that concrete.”

Oprah said she felt like the song would be a “national anthem throughout the world for anybody struggling with anything.”

While the whole confession took place under the rose arches of Oprah’s garden, Adele also shared her good news. After taking some time to rest, the singer is finally releasing her much-awaited album. The album release started with a 2-hour featured performance.

Last Sunday, Adele performed some of her classic hits and some new songs from her latest album. It took place at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles just behind the Hollywood sign.

That night was star-studded as some of the famous stars are present on the show. Some of them are Lizzo, Melissa McCarthy, and James Corden. It was also the first time Adele’s son Angelo has watched her perform live.
