LOS ANGELES — Multicultural Asian American entertainment network Myx TV kicked off its celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with a private event last May 2 at the RealD Theater in Beverly Hills.

The event included a VIP panel discussion and the special advanced screening of “My Motto: Veterans Edition,” a television special created in partnership with the national veteran campaign Got Your 6 that will honor Asian Pacific American veterans.

“Asian Americans have served in the U.S. military since the 19th century but are rarely associated with military service,” said Miguel Santos, general manager of Myx TV.

“Myx TV shares Got Your 6’s dedication to advocating for authentic narratives of our veterans in entertainment, and we can think of no better way to kick off Asian Pacific American Heritage Month than by shining a light on Asian Pacific American veterans who have served our country.”

The televised special premiered on the evening of May 2 as a linear episode of the Myx TV original digital series, “My Motto,” which gives an up-close look into the lives of Asian Americans with accomplished but unorthodox careers.

My Motto: Veterans Edition” showcases the stories of Thom Tran, comedian and U.S. Army veteran, Art dela Cruz, COO at Team Rubicon and U.S. Navy veteran, and Leaphy Khim, stuntwoman and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, whose time in service empowered them to become leaders in their communities upon their return home. The special is narrated by Maggie Q (“Designated Survivor”) and features a special message from California Congressman and U.S. Air Force veteran Ted Lieu.

The screening was followed by a panel discussion on the topic of contemporary Asian American representation in culture moderated by NBC Asian America Digital Editorial manager Traci Lee. Panelists include Michael Goi (“American Horror Story”), Julia Kim (Casting Society of America), and Thom Tran (“My Motto: Veterans Edition”).
