While the world counts down the days until K-pop superstar group BTS reunites on stage, member RM continues to make his mark in the global music scene as a soloist.

The 2025 American Music Awards, held recently in the United States, crowned RM as this year’s Favorite K-pop Artist, a category stacked with heavy-hitters including Blackpink’s Rosé, ATEEZ, fellow BTS member Jimin and Stray Kids.

This milestone win reflects RM’s steady ascent as a solo artist. His second album, “Right Place, Wrong Person,” dominated iTunes charts worldwide upon its release last year with a 79-minute documentary.

The documentary further captures the process of RM’s second solo album, and chronicles his internal conflict between his roles as BTS’ leader and his personal identity as Kim Nam-joon.

RM teamed up with Epik High’s Tablo for the track “Stop the Rain,” which clinched the No. 1 spot on the US iTunes Top Songs chart as of May 3. This marks RM’s seventh chart-topper on US iTunes, which was a rare feat for any solo artist, even more so for one hailing from a globally recognized group.

Since their groundbreaking 2017 debut performance at the AMAs, BTS has become a regular name at the American awards show, earning accolades for five consecutive years between 2018 and 2022.

Their 2022 win for Favorite Pop Duo or Group marked a four-year streak in the category which further embedded their legacy in American pop culture.

Founded in 1974, the American Music Awards is one of the most prestigious honors in the US music industry, alongside the Grammys and Billboard Music Awards.

Meanwhile, anticipation surges as BTS’s full-group comeback draws nearer. According to official schedules, RM and V will conclude their military service on June 10, with Jimin and Jungkook following on June 11. Suga is set to complete his service on June 21, effectively ending the group’s military hiatus.
