For avid K-pop fans, nothing tugs at the heartstrings more than the temporary farewell of their favorite idols as they begin South Korea’s mandatory military service.

Enlisting marks a pause in an idol’s career which keeps them away from the spotlight for nearly two years. And yes, even global icons like BTS are no exception to this national requirement.

However, there’s a silver lining for fans as the new year starts.

The “Dynamite” performers are reportedly gearing up for a full-group comeback in 2025, as five members are set to be discharged this year.

According to Maeil Business Newspaper, the remaining five members are fulfilling their duties in various military units, each playing a distinct and essential role in their respective assignments.

RM is part of the military band of the army’s 15th Infantry Division. Jimin, meanwhile, serves in the Artillery Brigade of the 5th Infantry Division. Jungkook contributes as a cook in the same division.

V, on the other hand, is entrusted with a challenging assignment in a special mission unit under the 2nd Army Military Police, a division known for its specialized operations.

Anticipation among ARMY is reaching new heights, with RM and V set to finish their service side by side on June 10. Just a day later, Jimin and Jungkook will also return on June 11. Completing the countdown, Suga’s discharge on June 22 will officially bring BTS’ military chapter to a close and paves the way for their highly anticipated reunion.

BTS member Jin was the first to complete his service in June of last year. J-Hope followed suit as he finished his military stint in October 2024.

Beyond BTS, other prominent K-pop idols, including SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi, NCT’s Doyoung and soloist Kang Daniel, are also preparing to enlist this year.

While fans bid temporary goodbyes to their idols, the anticipation of grand comebacks keeps the K-pop community hopeful.
