Juan Karlos’ track makes cinematic debut with ‘Pag-ibig Na Sumpa’
Transitioning effortlessly from the emotional vibes of “Ere,” Filipino singer and actor Juan Karlos Labajo unveils his latest musical offering, “Pag-Ibig Na Sumpa.”
This haunting composition is the thematic music centerpiece for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 entry, “Mallari,” showcasing Labajo’s adeptness at navigating diverse musical landscapes with finesse.
Xergio Ramos, alongside Emil Dela Rosa, arranged the track, while Quest composed it, seamlessly merging the heartfelt vocal deliveries of the “Buwan” singer with mood-setting instrumentals.
With a repetition of the lyrics “Nasa’n ang pag-ibig mo, ililigtas mo ba ako,” accompanied by an eerie musical drop, the song captures the essence of the film and resonates profoundly with the audience, setting the perfect tone for a thrilling cinematic experience in “Mallari.”
Premiered at the Fanverse event on Dec. 17, the song immerses listeners in the dark narrative of the film, exploring the chilling story of Severino Mallari, a priest recognized as the Philippines’ first serial killer in the 19th century.
This release closely follows the “Senior High” star’s first-ever Christmas song, “Maligayang Pasko,” expanding his impressive repertoire of heart-touching anthems.
Notably, Labajo’s record-breaking song “Ere” secured its place in history as the first Filipino song to debut on the Spotify global chart.
