San Francisco’s Fil-Am History Month celebration gets moved to a new date
Fil-Am communities in the US are now gearing up for a series of celebrations for Filipino American History Month, but San Francisco is pulling their brakes on the festivities to take a moment and honor US Senator and ex-SF Mayor Dianne Feinstein in her memorial services.
Originally set today, Oct. 5, at San Francisco City Hall’s Rotunda, the Fil-Am History Month celebration will hit “snooze” for two weeks. Update your calendars as the celebration is rescheduled to Oct. 26, Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the same venue.
The Golden Gate City will bid goodbye to Feinstein at the San Francisco City Hall, and the public can join in paying tribute to the political powerhouse. She has shown support for the vibrant Filipino community during her term.
As we look to the future, we build on the progress for women that Senator Dianne Feinstein made possible. She knew her “why” and she always worked to bring people together for the good of California and of our great nation.

Al Perez, chair of the Filipino American History Month Celebration Host Committee, puts it beautifully, “We recognize Senator Feinstein’s significant impacts on shaping the history of our beloved city and her unwavering support for the Filipino community. In joining the nation to honor her legacy, it is appropriate to adjust our plans to allow for the proper remembrance and tribute.”

While President Biden and VP Kamala Harris didn’t miss out on honoring the Filipino American legacy in the US with Sesame Street also paying tribute to this month’s celebration, a series of Fil-Am feasts is also happening in some states, and SF is not one to be left out.
Starting with SF Mayor London Breed’s proclamation, bouts of wisdom from Philippine Consul General Neil Ferrer to a keynote from small business owner and community advocate Marjan Philhour, their inspirations will set the stage for an epic evening.

The celebration also promises a lineup of fabulous events. Groove to the moves of Parangal Dance Company, enjoy the serenade of Raquel Basco and vibe with singers Jackie Chavez and Octavio Gutierrez.
What could be a momentous night-ender? Feeling that Pinoy pride as the San Francisco City Hall will lit up in the vibrant colors of the Philippine flag.
This event is open to the public. But if you can’t make it, the whole show will be streamed on YouTube via the Mayor’s Office official YT page.
