October marks Filipino American History Month, a time to celebrate the culture, history, and contributions of Filipino Americans to the United States. From coast to coast, various events and gatherings have been organized to commemorate this special occasion. If you’re looking to participate in the festivities and connect with the Filipino American community, here’s a list of upcoming celebrations in various states:

Union City, California

Filipino American History Month Celebration: Remembering Our History, Impacting Our Future

When: Oct. 7, 2023, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This event is an enticing marriage of the traditional and the contemporary. Attendees can revel in Filipino folk songs, witness traditional Filipino dances, and engage with speakers shedding light on Filipino-American history and culture. You’ll also get the chance to rub shoulders with local Filipino public officials and hear success stories from James Logan High School graduates.

Join the Filipino American National Historical Society in Seattle, Washington, for FAHM 2023. This year’s theme of “1898: Recognizing 125 Years of Philippine-American History” explores the impact of American colonialism. Reflect on what might have been if it hadn’t occurred, delve into oral histories, and consider motivations for immigration. Analyze gains and losses since 1898, discover shared experiences with other ethnic groups, and examine historical documents.

Filipino American History Month – An Evening with Atty. Leni Robredo

On Oct. 18, New York City sets the stage for an extraordinary evening celebrating Filipino American History Month where former Vice President of the Philippines Atty. Leni Robredo takes the spotlight to celebrate Filipino-American heritage. Event proceeds will support the Angat Pinas program.

San Jose, California

FAHM Jam 2023 – Filipino American History Month Celebration presented by FACTsj

When: Oct. 20, 2023, Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Garden at the Flea / 1590 Berryessa Rd. San Jose

FAHM Jam 2023 in San Jose, CA looks to deliver a dynamic showcase of the Bay Area’s Filipino-American culture. Expect a celebratory convergence of live music, food, fashion, and small businesses. Do note though that attendees must be 21 or older to purchase alcohol, and outside drinks are not permitted.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Vegas FAB 2023: Trade Expo

When: Oct. 28, 2023, Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. PDT
Where: The Orleans Hotel & Casino / 4500 West Tropicana Avenue Las Vegas, NV 89103 

The first ever Las Vegas trade expo looks to put on display the exciting depth and diversity of Philippine culture, traditions, and art as well as Filipino-American products and services. Dubbed Vegas FAB, the event is akin to an inside look into Fil-Am entrepreneurship and is set to become an annual celebration of Filipino American History Month.
