Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage accidentally drank his blood while playing Count Dracula in the new Universal horror comedy “Renfield.”

The actor played the iconic role alongside Nicholas Hoult’s title character, Cage, and his co-star took part in an AMA on Reddit to promote the movie.

One user asked them during the conversation if there “was actual blood consumed in the film’s making.” Cage responded, “No reason as regards method, but the fangs were real; they were ceramic and pointy.”

“I bit my lip a few times, which made me drink my blood,” Cage explained. Then Hoult said, “I quite like how my blood tastes.”

He continued, “I always had the artificial teeth in my mouth. I tried to speak with some eloquence, but it’s hard to form any words at all.”

The actor talked about the character and the influence gotten from older representations. “I got plenty of help from the costume department and makeup artists. We all merged and powwowed this character together,” he said.

He continued: “I looked at previously well-done works and sort of cherry-picked things I liked about Dracula that have worked. Then, I tried to find something new to do with what I learned.”

Cage ended the question by saying, “There is something fuzzy and warm about it.” Renfield tells the story of Dracula’s stressed-out and overworked henchman.

The latest vampire movie features Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ben Schwartz, Awkwafina, and Caroline Williams.

The film followed the footsteps of other recent comedy horrors, including Cocaine Bear and M3gan.

In an interview with Collider, they asked Cage about his working experience with his co-star. “Nic is somebody I admire ever since we worked on The Weather Man — he played my son in that movie.”

“Even in his junior years, I could tell he was very talented and going to be the star; that’s what he subsequently became. So I was happy to get back on set with him,” he said.

He continued, “You know, it’s been a while, 13 to 15 years, but any chance I got, I started throwing lines at him as I wanted to rehearse — we got little time to rehearse together. He had full hands.”

The eccentric actor expressed interest in continuing the role of Dracula and believed it might not be a variety of roles.

In an interview for Variety, they asked Cage if he had any plans for the part. “This is the right amount of time for Dracula in the movie,” Cage mentioned.

“But I would not mind exploring how Dracula became Dracula. How did you become the guy? I want to take time to portray that, to see how it goes,” Cage said.

He continued, “To me, Dracula was about love and exile. He’s unrequited love; surely, you will go bad if you don’t receive love back. That’s what I want to look at.”

“They are portraying it like a boss from hell,” he continued. “This is about a toxic relationship between Dracula and Renfield,” he added.

Usually, when you see Renfield in films, he’s represented grotesquely. “Nick is a very handsome, charming, funny, and witty actor, So we got a unique take,” Cage said.
