Simu Liu, Awkwafina, John Cena Star in Upcoming Film ‘Grand Death Lotto’

Awkwafina, Simu Liu and John Cena will star in the upcoming action-comedy movie “Grand Death Lotto.” 

The film is set in a near-future California with new rules for the lottery. If someone kills the announced winner before sundown, that person can legally take the prize.

Director Paul Feig complemented the film. “I love action comedy and extreme physical comedy, and this movie has both in abundance, as well as a boatload of heart and hilarity.”

Ghostbusters remake director Paul Feig helms the Grand Death Lotto movie. He claimed, “this lotto will make winners of us all.”

It will premiere on the video streaming service Amazon Prime Video. Consequently, the head of Amazon and MGM Studios, Jennifer Salke, promoted the movie.

She said, “Grand Death Lotto is the kind of original idea audiences have been craving, and there’s no one better than the endlessly talented Paul Feig to steer the ship.”

“We can’t wait to watch John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu bring this fun, action-packed script to life for our Prime Video customers around the world,” Salke added.

The synopsis reads, “New L.A. transplant Katie (Awkwafina) accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket and must join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel (Cena)…”

“… to make it to sundown in order to claim her multibillion-dollar prize, all while dealing with Noel’s protection rival Louis Lewis (Liu)…”

“… who also wants to get her to sundown in order to claim his rich protection commission.” Also, Grand Death Lotto marks a reunion for Awkwafina and Simu Liu.

Both starred in the 2021 Marvel film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Awkwafina, a.k.a Nora Lum, starred in other films like “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Ocean’s 8.”

She also earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her leading role in the 2018 comedy-drama The Farewell.

Simu Liu played Jung Kim in the 2016 CBC sitcom “Kim’s Convenience.” Moreover, you may remember John Cena as a WWE superstar.

Nowadays, he focuses on his film career, starring in numerous films like “The Suicide Squad,” “F9,” and “The Marine.”

You would need an Amazon Prime Video subscription to watch Grand Death Lotto. However, it did not have an exact release date at the time of writing.
