Fil-Am ‘Warriors Hype Man’ to host 2 tilts at the NBA All-Star 2023
NBA All Star Games this weekend will have the first and only Filipino and AAPI, and only one in the NBA to have the honor of being invited to host the All-Star Game.
Franco Finn will be in the thick of things in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, February 17, and then the big All Star Saturday night completion with the Dunk and 3 Point Competition. Both will be nationally televised for the All-Star Weekend at the Vivint Arena, home of the Utah Jazz, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Franco Finn, Golden State Warriors’ Hype Man, has been in the league for the past 20 years, sharing his energy in each Warriors game since he started at the Oakland Oracle Arena in 2002, and now at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Finn has this to say: “It is a huge moment for me and also for us and our representation. Basketball is one of the biggest sports beloved by Filipinos worldwide and so representing for the Dubs and our community, is what I will be doing next week at All-Star!”
NBA All-Star Weekend will tip off Friday, Feb. 17 at 9 p.m. ET, with the celebrity game and Rising Stars Challenge. NBA All-Star Saturday will feature the skills challenge, 3-point contest and slam dunk contest.
The Rising Stars Challenge will feature a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. There are 21 NBA players to be drafted onto three teams and seven G League players will comprise the fourth team. Honorary coaches are Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah, Jason Terry and Deron Williams. Each game will be played to a Final Target Score: two semifinal matchups to 40, and a championship game to 25.
