Kevin Quiambao misses Sacramento Kings’ Summer League

Filipino basketball standout Kevin Quiambao has taken his shot at the NBA, traveling to the United States with dreams of suiting up for the Sacramento Kings.
But despite an impressive rookie campaign in the Korean Basketball League (KBL), the former UAAP MVP from De La Salle University will not be part of the Kings’ final Summer League roster for Las Vegas.
Quiambao, who officially signed a three-year extension with the Goyang Sono Skygunners, posted averages of 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals across 23 games in his debut KBL season.
These numbers sparked optimism that he might secure a spot with the Kings’ Summer League squad, especially given his early training presence and with Filipino basketball icon Jimmy Alapag serving as one of the team’s assistant coaches.
However, the Kings ultimately released their 16-man roster for Las Vegas, and Quiambao’s name was not on the list.
Instead, the team opted to highlight fresh talent including 2025 NBA Draft prospects Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud, G League champion forwards Isaac Jones and Isaiah Crawford and second-year guard Devin Carter.
Despite the setback, Quiambao remains undeterred in his NBA ambitions. Sources close to the 6-foot-6 forward said he is staying ready in case another NBA team extends a training camp invite or contract opportunity in the coming weeks.
While the Summer League will proceed from July 10 to 20, Quiambao is expected to shift his focus to national team duties.
The former De La Salle University star will likely return to the Philippines soon to begin preparations for Gilas Pilipinas’ 2025 FIBA Asia Cup campaign this August.
Though the Kings’ Summer League lineup did not pan out, Quiambao’s journey toward the NBA is far from over and his determination to break barriers for Filipino players on the global stage continues.
