Sean Penn is filming a documentary in Ukraine during the Russian invasion

Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Sean Penn is now in Ukraine. He’s shooting a documentary about Russia’s recent Ukraine invasion. While there, Sean Penn attends meetings and press conferences with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

In association with Vice World News and Endeavor Content, Vice Studios production will produce the documentary.

Sean Penn had been visiting Ukraine since November 2021. He already started filming by visiting Ukraine’s military forces. The Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation Press Service released photos of Penn during his November trip.

According to a translated Facebook post from Ukraine’s Office of the President, Sean Penn is there for a meaningful purpose. The office said that Penn came to Kyiv. With a purpose to “tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country.” This Facebook post comes along with Penn’s photo. While attending a press conference in Ukraine.

Sean Penn’s Societal Endeavors

The office added, “Our country is grateful to him for such a show of courage and honesty.” While Ukraine president Zelensky also posted a video in his Instagram story showing his meeting with Penn.

Ukraine’s Office of the President even released an official statement. “The director specially came to Kyiv to record all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country. Sean Penn is among those who support Ukraine in Ukraine today. Our country is grateful to him for such a show of courage and honesty.”

Over the years, Penn has been actively present in a lot of humanitarian and anti-war operations. Moreover, Citizen Penn, a 2020 Discovery Plus documentary narrates the actor’s unrelenting efforts in creating a non-profit organization. The organization is named Community Organized Relief Effort or CORE.

Some of CORE’s remarkable community involvement includes helping out during the Haiti earthquake in 2010. According to Variety, they also help in COVID-19 testing and vaccine distributions across the country.
