The ultimate Delta-8 checklist — 5 things to consider before buying Delta-8 THC

/ 10:54 AM February 07, 2022

Delta-8 THC extracts are almost as popular as CBD oils nowadays. However, just because hemp-derived delta-8 is trendy doesn’t mean it’s a fully-regulated supplement. Since the FDA doesn’t oversee the hemp industry, customers have to be extra cautious about picking up cannabinoids like delta-8 THC.

Although the delta-8 market has a “Wild West” reputation, customers could use a few strategies to suss out phony companies. Please keep these considerations in mind as you shop for safe delta-8 products.

Five Things To Consider Before Buying Delta-8 THC

Five Things To Consider Before Buying Delta-8 THC

Is It Legal To Buy Delta-8 THC In Your State?

Before researching lab results, you must figure out whether it’s legal to buy delta-8 in your state. Yes, we know; the 2018 US Farm Bill only outlawed delta-9 THC. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean hemp-derived delta-8 is legit throughout North America.

Please remember that each state could introduce restrictions on cannabinoids like delta-8 THC. Now that delta-8 is incredibly popular, it’s more common for local lawmakers to propose banning hemp-derived delta-8 products. Therefore, customers must review their state’s latest stance on delta-8 to avoid any legal issues.

Where Does Your Company Source Its Hemp Flowers?

You may have noticed we frequently add the phrase “hemp-derived” whenever mentioning delta-8 THC. The reason we use these words has to do with legality.

Remember the 2018 US Farm Bill only legalized hemp products in the USA. Therefore, even if your state doesn’t have a ban on delta-8, it’s federally illegal to use any delta-8 tinctures from non-hemp sources.

Although most delta-8 manufacturers use hemp CBD to make their products, a few use delta-9 THC in their formulations. Obviously, if your company uses marijuana or delta-9 THC, they are dealing with illegal substances.

Please take a few moments to review what your delta-8 manufacturer uses to make these products. If the company doesn’t explicitly say it uses organic hemp flowers, it’s probably not the best pick.

Does Your Delta-8 Company Offer Third-Party Lab Results?

Third-party lab results may be “optional,” but no reputable delta-8 manufacturer should neglect them. Also called Certificates of Analysis (COAs), these standard screenings help verify a delta-8 product’s purity without a potential conflict of interest.

On these lab reports, you should see the total cannabinoid count and average terpene percentages. These tests should also verify no heavy metals, pesticides, or other toxins are in the final delta-8 product.

Since COAs are the only way today’s hemp companies could back up their claims, they are essential in any high-quality delta-8 product.

How Much Delta-9 Is In Your Delta-8?

Related to the last point, you must look up the total delta-9 percentage in your delta-8 extract. Anything with above 0.3 percent delta-9 doesn’t meet the US government’s criteria for legal hemp extracts.

Customers should also know there are some delta-8 products with zero delta-9 concentrations. So, if you want to avoid delta-9 completely, please take your time examining the third-party lab results associated with various products. You should find a few items with “zero” or “N/A” next to the delta-9 THC bracket.

What’s Your Delta-8 Company’s Track Record?

Lastly, you should research what others are saying about your delta-8 brand. Granted, reading online reviews isn’t the most “scientific” way to evaluate a company, but it can help you get a feel for this brand’s reputation.

You should also check out how many years your delta-8 company has been in operation. While you’re scanning the official website, be on the lookout for any awards and official accreditations.
