Given the actual name of Timothy Alan Dick, Tim Allen was born on June 13, 1953, in Denver, Colorado. Allen was already very much interested in theater and drama. He also learned to play the piano and eventually became a musician. Although he isn’t well-known for his musical talents, he still pursued this hobby in his time outside of work.

He went to Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University for university, graduating from the latter institution in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications. He also became involved in the schools’ radio shows during his undergraduate years.

Tim Allen was first married to Laura Deibel in 1984. In 1989, their only daughter was born before they were separating in 1999. Jane Hajduk became his second wife in 2006. Their first daughter together was born in 2009.

Tim Allen’s comedy journey started when his friends dared him to perform stand-up during comedy night at Comedy Castle, a Detroit club. That was way back in 1975, and young Tim Allen did not expect that would be the start of a life-long career in the comedy scene. He first appeared in television ads before booking comedy shows left and right on the air.

Allen also started to perform at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles after a short stint in prison for a drug-related incident. In 1991, he was cast in Home Improvement. Which then became ABC Network’s number one show.

A couple of years later, he was released as Santa Clause in Disney’s The Santa Clause (1994). He proceeded to reprise the role for two more movies in 2002 and 2006.

Allen proceeded with his voice-over career when he lent his voice as the iconic Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. He then did another Disney production, Jungle 2 Jungle, in 1997.

His other movies include Galaxy Quest (1999), Christmas with the Kranks (2004), Zoom (2006), Wild Hogs (2007), and many more. Last Man Standing (2011), his previous show, was set for a final season from ABC when Fox picked it up and renewed it up to the present.

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films USA proclaimed him a winner of the Saturn Award for Best Actor in 2000 for his role in Galaxy Quest (1999). In 2014, he was the winner for Best Male Vocal Performance in a TV Special/Direct-to-DVD Title or Short at the Behind the Voice Actors Awards for his iconic Buzz Lightyear voice-over.
