Fil-Am family appeals for a living donor

/ 10:38 AM February 16, 2021

The family of Hermenegildo (Hermie) Manaloto, 70, of Rockville, Maryland, is appealing to the community for help.

Manaloto, recently diagnosed with liver cancer, is in need of a liver transplant and is on a waiting to list to receive one from a deceased donor. But he  needs a liver transplant as soon as possible and a living donor is his best chance to recover and get well.

He is presently under the care of the Medstar Georgetown Transplant Institute. While he is on the United Network for Organ Sharing list, it will take a long time and not everyone will receive a donated organ. His doctors have determined that he is a good candidate for receiving a liver from a living donor.

The liver is the only organ in the body that can regenerate itself.  Anyone, therefore, is able to donate a part of his or her liver to someone in need. Members of the family are getting tested and evaluated to see if anyone is a  possible candidate for a live liver donation.
