Filipino in Las Vegas arrested for punching 3-year-old toddler

SAN FRANCISCO — A Filipino man in Las Vegas was arrested when a three-year-old girl almost died after he repeatedly punched her in the stomach, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Mauricio Paras, 27, was babysitting his girlfriend’s toddler and her five-year-old brother. When the children’s mother returned home from work, she found her daughter limp on the couch with bruises on her stomach, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police records. Paras told police he hit the girl five times.

The child’s mother took the toddler to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she was revived.

Hospital staff reported to Metro that the girl had red and purple bruising on her abdomen, leg, right cheek and forehead.

Paras faces three counts of child abuse and neglect with substantial bodily harm. He was booked into Clark County Detention Center on $75,000 bail.
