Canada celebrates its first June Filipino Heritage Month
TORONTO — Filipinos across Canada finally have a month to call their own.
The House of Commons last October unanimously officially made June Filipino Heritage Month by adopting Motion 155,
With a population of over 850,000, Filipinos are among the largest and fastest growing communities in Canada. Greater Toronto Area alone has 280,000 residents with Filipino heritage.
Filipino Heritage Month Council announced celebrations that started on June 1, including an opening reception at Malvern Public Library, a Proudly Pinoy Day, BIBAK Cultural Night, Philippine flag raisings, Pamana Exhibits, a basketball tournament, Pinoy Fiesta & Trade Show and Pistahan sa Toronto.
