WorldRemit offers OFWs the chance to win back their loved ones’ school fees

/ 09:00 AM May 20, 2019

London and Manila, 20 May 2019: In the Philippines, more than 23 million public school students will be starting the new academic year in June. Online money transfer service WorldRemit is offering OFWs who send money home for their family’s education the chance to win back the cost of their loved ones’ school fees up to PHP 50,000.

To be entered into the prize draw, customers should simply:

  • Send money to the Philippines with WorldRemit between 1st May and 30th June.
  • Email [email protected] with their name, email and phone number.

Last year, the Filipino diaspora sent home nearly $34 billion in remittances and the Back to School period is always one of the busiest times to send money. Between 1.5 to 3 million children in the Philippines have a parent living abroad, and remittances have been shown to increase school attendance.

Research by WorldRemit found that switching from offline to digital remittances could free up an additional $825 million globally for families to spend on children’s education. Filipinos living in the USA, for example, could save over $8 in transaction fees on average by sending money home for the back to school period with WorldRemit. These savings could be used to help to buy a school uniform for a child in the Philippines.

OFWs living in over 50 countries, including the US, Canada and Australia, can send money home in seconds using the WorldRemit app or website. This saves remittance senders time and money as they do not need to travel to and pay expensive fees at a money transfer branch.

WorldRemit offers remittance recipients in the Philippines a variety of convenient ways to receive money including instant cash collection at over 15,000 locations across the country, bank transfer, mobile money and airtime top-up.
