Filipino arrested in deadly bus shooting in Las Vegas
SAN FRANCISCO — Police in Las Vegas, Nevada arrested a Filipino man after a shooting that killed one man and wounded another on Saturday, March 25 on the famous Strip.
Rolando Bueno Cardenas, 55, of Las Vegas was arrested after an hourslong standoff in front of The Cosmopolitan. A double-decker RTC bus stopped in the 3700 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South to unload passengers when Cardenas, who was sitting in the bus’s rear, started firing several rounds from a handgun, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
Two victims, both male, were struck. One, Gary Breitling, 57, of Sidney, Montana, was killed, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The other victim is expected to survive. Cardenas had no apparent reason for shooting, police said.
Cardenas faces charges of open murder with use of a firearm, attempted murder with use of a firearm, burglary while in possession of a firearm, and discharging a gun within a vehicle.
Cardenas stayed inside the bus after the shooting. Police called in its crisis negotiators and SWAT team to help. After several hours, Cardenas surrendered to police peacefully.
