Filipinos continue to carve their names into the K-pop scene as K-pop girl group UNIS members Gehlee Dangca and Elisia Parmisano achieve a historic feat by becoming the first full-blooded Filipina K-pop idols to win a trophy on a South Korean music show.
UNIS recently clinched their first-ever music show victory on “Show Champion” with their comeback hit track “Swicy,” a sweet-and-spicy pop anthem that has captured the hearts of fans in South Korea, the Philippines and beyond.
The win not only marks a significant milestone for the rookie girl group but also signals a new chapter for Filipino representation in the global K-pop landscape.

However, this is not the first time Gehlee and Elisia have made waves in the K-pop industry. Last year, they became the first Filipino idols to win at the prestigious MAMA Awards, one of Korea’s most celebrated year-end music awards shows.
Since its inception in 1999, the MAMA Awards has been a stage for only the most impactful artists in the Korean pop realm. For two young Filipinas to claim a trophy there was a historic moment in itself, but now, their victory on a weekly music show adds yet another layer to their legacy.

Meanwhile, Elisia has also recently made headlines as the first full-blooded Filipino to take on MC duties in a Korean music program, which is a significant move in an industry that has traditionally favored local and Korean-speaking hosts.
Adding to the string of firsts, UNIS is also the first K-pop group with a dedicated Filipino line. Elisia, who was the first contestant to secure a spot in the final lineup during the survival show Universe Ticket, also made history by becoming the first Filipino to rank first in a Korean survival program.
Another member of UNIS, 22-year-old Jin Hyeon-ju, represents the Filipino-Korean community, adding even more multicultural depth to the group’s identity.
Their sibling group, AHOF (All-time Hall of Famer), is also making headlines. JL, a member of AHOF, is Filipino and made positive buzz after ranking first in another Korean survival show with over three million votes.
