In recent years, the idea of Filipinos thriving in the K-pop industry has transitioned from a distant dream to an exciting reality.
Back then, the spotlight shone primarily on soloist and Filipino American singer Kriesha Chu, who ventured into South Korea’s music scene and, of course, 2NE1’s Sandara Park, who became a K-pop icon and an inspiration to many.
This year, however, the stage isn’t limited to just two Filipinos – it’s expanding to include more talented individuals making their mark in the industry.
Among the notable new faces is P-pop idol JL Gaspar, who recently participated in the K-pop audition program Universe League.
K-pop survival shows like this have played a major role in this shift which provides Filipinos with a platform to showcase their skills and fight for their dreams.
Filipino fans, known for their unparalleled voting power, have been instrumental in turning these aspirations into reality.
Time and again, they have rallied behind Filipino contestants, catapulting them to the coveted No. 1 spot with impressive voting margins.

JL, the only Filipino to qualify for Universe League, recently dominated the competition with 3,168,841 global votes in the finals, being the only contestant to surpass the million-mark.
Throughout the show, he consistently secured the top spot, earning him a place in F&F Entertainment’s upcoming boy group AHOF (All-time Hall of Famer), alongside eight global members.
Prior to this achievement, JL was part of the P-pop group PLUUS.
The success doesn’t stop there. In Universe Ticket, another audition program under the same label, Elisia Parmisano clinched the top spot, earning her a place in the K-pop girl group UNIS.
Joining her in the group are two other Filipina idols, Gehlee Dangca and Jin Hyeon-ju.

Adding to this wave of success, though from a global pop group, is Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza, who also claimed the first rank in the final mission of “The Debut: Dream Academy.”
