BTS member Jungkook has recently donated 1 billion won to the ongoing wildfire relief efforts in South Korea.
The fires, which ravaged large areas in the southeastern regions of South Korea, forced around 27,000 people to evacuate their homes last March. As the fires continued to spread, they closed roads and disrupted communication lines, leaving many residents stranded and in desperate need of aid.
In response to this devastating crisis, the global K-pop superstar has donated 1 billion won (approximately $680,000) to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association.
Jungkook’s donation is aimed at providing urgent assistance to those who have lost their homes in the fire-ravaged Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam regions.
This donation is the largest known contribution from any public figure since the fires began. Half of the amount, 500 million won, will go toward providing emergency supplies and relief to the displaced residents.
The remaining 500 million won will be directed to improving the working conditions of the firefighters, who have been tirelessly battling the blazes.
Donations for wildfire relief have surpassed 110 billion won ($75 million), according to Korea JoongAng Daily. Of this amount, 92.5 billion won was collected through eight fundraising organizations, including the Korea Disaster Relief Association and the Korean Red Cross.
Meanwhile, BTS member J-Hope has made a sizable donation of 100 million won to support the families of victims of the Jeju Air crash.
In other news, J-Hope has recently tied with Jungkook for the most K-pop solo hits on Billboard. Despite their ongoing military service, both members continue to dominate the charts and maintain their influence as soloists.
The countdown to BTS’ highly anticipated reunion is well underway, with RM and V set to complete their enlistment on June 10, followed by Jimin and Jungkook on June 11.
Suga’s expected discharge on June 22 will officially mark the end of BTS’ military service era, further fueling excitement over their long-awaited comeback in 2025.
