2024 is that year when many dance challenges, songs and groups have been trending. It greatly reflects the power of social media to catapult artists and celebrities to viral status.

Platforms like TikTok and X became the go-to spaces for discovering songs, inventive choreography and rising stars.

It’s also this year when everyone has been dancing to BINI’s “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin.” The group dominated not just the music scene but also social media feeds, with fans and creators joining in on dance challenges, fun runs, outfits and more that spread like wildfire all year long.

As 2024 draws to a close, Google’s “Year in Search” report reveals the names, events and trends that piqued the interest of Filipinos throughout the year.

Among these, the Filipino girl group raised their golden arrows and clinched the top spot in the “Female Personalities” category, proving their status as the one and only “nation’s girl group” and one of the Philippines’ most influential acts this year.

But not just that, member Mikha Lim (with her red hair) also secured individual recognition, landing at 10th place in the same category.

Moreover, BINI’s chart-topping hits, including “Salamin, Salamin” and “Pantropiko,” also left an indelible mark on Google’s trending “Songs or Lyrics” searches.

“Salamin, Salamin” ranked 7th, while “Pantropiko” claimed the 9th spot. Leading this list is Dionela’s “Sining,” a track that also became a nationwide sensation and where BINI’s Stacey Sevilleja starred in the official music video.

Meanwhile, Maki’s hit song “Dilaw” was also in the same category, where BINI’s Maloi was also part of the music video.

On the flip side, the “Year in Search” results highlight the Filipino audience’s continued reliance on Google for staying informed and discovering the latest trends.

In 2024, six out of the top 10 overall searches were news-related. Filipino gymnast and two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo made it to four lists: overall top trending, news, sports and male personalities.
