Olivia Rodrigo’s PH concert sparks record-breaking demand
With concert tickets priced at just 1,500 pesos each in all tiers, Olivia Rodrigo’s October “GUTS” show in the Philippines has become a historic event.
The Filipino American singer’s concert sparked unprecedented demand, with nearly 800,000 fans joining the waiting list to secure one of the limited seats. This overwhelming response underscores that the country is definitely her turf, and her identity as a Filipina contributes to that.
A key element that sets the Grammy-award-winning artist’s Philippine concert apart is her initiative to keep tickets affordable for fans, with Filipinos calling it “presyong kababayan.” Concert producer Live Nation also made sure that scalpers can’t resell them at inflated prices.
With nearly 800,000 fans queuing online for tickets and only over 50,000 seats available at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, many fans expressed their frustration over not securing tickets by referencing Rodrigo’s iconic lyrics, such as “Jealousy, jealousy.” These lines perfectly captured the disappointment of those who missed out on the initial sale.
Fortunately, there is still hope for those who missed out – an over-the-counter ticket sale will open on Sept. 29, giving fans another chance to attend the concert.
Aside from the fan frenzy, Filipino celebrities are also joining the excitement. Actress Andrea Brillantes took to social media to express her sheer enthusiasm for the concert.
In her post, she humorously shared her panic, frantically stating that she absolutely cannot have any work commitments on Oct. 5, the day of the concert, declaring, “BLOCK OFF YAN BLOCK OFF!”
Rodrigo’s concert in Bulacan marks the Philippine stop on the Asian leg of her “GUTS” world tour. Before arriving in the country, she will perform in major cities across Asia, including Bangkok, Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
With proceeds from the concert supporting her global “Fund 4 Good” initiative, aimed at empowering women and girls, the event is not just a musical milestone but also a meaningful contribution to a larger cause.
