Fil-Canadian artist Zachary explores nuances of love in debut album
One good stereotype about Filipinos is their exceptional talent in singing. This reputation stems from the musical heritage ingrained in Filipino culture, where singing is often a centerpiece of family gatherings and community events.
From a young age, many Filipinos are immersed in music, whether through traditional folk songs, contemporary pop or the influence of celebrated artists.
This cultural backdrop nurtures exceptional vocal skills, as seen in Filipino Canadian artist Zachary, who draws inspiration from her musically talented parents.
Zachary channels her personal experiences and emotions into her debut album “luvin u,” a compelling collection of eight tracks exploring the nuances of romance.
The album’s title track, “luvin u,” sets the tone with its heartfelt expression of affection, while other tracks such as “Pangako,” “huling sayaw” and “Paalam” offer a range of sentiments from the joy of new love to the pain of parting. However, it is the track “toxic” that particularly stands out. This song delves into the complexities of staying in a harmful relationship despite the pain it causes.
Zachary explains the essence of “toxic” in a TikTok post, describing it as an exploration of the paradox where holding on feels safer than the uncertainty of letting go.
“It’s about when holding on feels safer than letting go. This song is dedicated to those red flags,” the Star Music artist shares.
Zachary’s journey as an artist began with her debut single “dahan dahan” in 2022, a sultry R&B track that highlighted her distinct musical style.
Her subsequent singles, including “RBND” and “Bakit?,” have further solidified her presence in the music scene, with “RBND” achieving an impressive 220,000 streams on Spotify.
Written in her Spotify description, Zachary aims to “move the younger masses with her relatable songwriting, sultry voice and mature charms” as she sets out to become the next big OPM soloist.
