Paris Olympic athletes who secured podium finishes are taking home medals and engraving their legacy in the annals of history. In some countries, they also receive hefty bonuses.

Traditionally, Olympians take home the Olympic mascot stuffed toys. But this year, they’re receiving an “exclusive box,” featuring a unique twist and sparking curiosity about what’s inside the boxes.

Aside from these tokens, the world champions also enjoy financial rewards. Here’s a list of the top countries where Olympic medalists have a hefty payday.

Below are the top payouts (in US dollars) collected by CNBC from local reports and sports associations.

  1. Hong Kong – $768,000
  2. Singapore – $745,000
  3. Indonesia – $300,000
  4. Israel – $271,000
  5. Republic of Kazakhstan – $250,000
  6. Malaysia – $216,000
  7. Philippines – $173,000
  8. Spain – $102,000

This year, a few countries have upped the ante, giving out substantial Olympic prize money to their top athletes.

Hong Kong is leading with the biggest payout – $768,000. Last July, the country’s Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki announced that cash incentives have increased 20 percent, compared to those given out in the Tokyo Olympics.

In addition to cash incentives, Yulo also received a fully furnished two-bedroom condo and a lifetime of freebies from various restaurants.

Malaysia’s medalists are receiving additional cash incentives and luxury-serviced apartments from private entities.

Meanwhile, the Olympic prize money for Team USA champions seems modest compared to those received by their fellow Olympians from other countries.

The US is rewarding their gold medalists $38,000 and their silver and bronze medalists $23,000 and $15,000 respectively.
