Woman charged with murdering wife with samurai sword
POMONA, Calif. – A woman was charged Friday with fatally stabbing her wife with a Samurai sword and attacking her wife’s mother in San Dimas, Calif.
Weichien Huang, 44, is set to be arraigned Monday in a Pomona courtroom on one count each of murder and attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The charges include allegations that she used a deadly weapon and inflicted great bodily injury on an elderly victim, according to court records.
Investigators responded to the 300 block of South Huntington Avenue, between Arrow Highway and Cienega Avenue, around 3:30 p.m. July 18 regarding a fatal stabbing, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
A video obtained by KTLA shows a woman walking in the street with the alleged weapon, then dropped it after she was approached by an officer.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Daniel Vizcarra said during a press conference that the woman then directed them “to a residence on the street where the deputies find an additional female suffering also from lacerations, was later pronounced dead at the scene.”
“And as they continued through the residence, an additional female was found in the residence unharmed, who was also transferred to a local hospital due to a medical emergency,” he added.
Investigators determined upon further investigation that Huang and her wife were engaged in an argument at their residence moments before Huang attacked her with a sword, according to sheriff’s officials.
Huang’s wife was identified Monday by the medical examiner as Chen Chen Fei, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to sheriff’s officials.
“At some point, Huang attacked Fei with a sword. Fei’s mother was also attacked and severely injured; however, was able to gain control of the sword and fled the residence looking for help,” sheriff’s officials said.
Fei’s mother was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries, authorities said.
Huang has remained behind bars since her arrest by sheriff’s deputies, jail records show. (With CNS report)
