Taylor Swift, ‘Barbie’ top winners at Kids’ Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES – “Barbie” and Taylor Swift emerged from the annual slime-fest of the 2024 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards as the top winners.
The awards, presented Saturday at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion, also included a Legend Gold Blimp award for retired tennis superstar Serena Williams for a career spanning sports, fashion, beauty and lifestyle.
“Barbie” won four awards including Favorite Movie and a Favorite Actress honor for its star, Margot Robbie. Two songs from the movie’s soundtrack, “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with Aqua won for Favorite Song and Favorite Music Collaboration, respectively.
Taylor Swift won three awards for Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Global Music Star and Favorite Ticket of the Year for her The Eras Tour.
The show was co-hosted amid the animated world of “SpongeBob Squarepants” — in honor of the show’s 25th anniversary — by SpongeBob and his pal Patrick Star, voiced by Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke.
“SpongeBob” also took home the award for Favorite Cartoon.
The Kids Choice Awards are noted for dousing its stars with green slime, with their approval. Those slimed this year included performers The Kid Laroi and Jelly Roll, singer-songwriter-actress Reneé Rapp and actors Jack Black and Henry Golding.
This year’s ceremony also included rainbow slime, a first for the annual awards show.
Kids Choice honorees are chosen exclusively through online voting.
