Fil-Am artist Karri drops ‘Chasing U’ while visiting the Philippines
If you are chronically online and TikTok has become your go-to source for discovering music from around the world, you’ve likely heard the tracks “Only U” and “3AM In Oakland” by Filipino American singer-songwriter Karri.
The 21-year-old talent from the Bay Area has made waves with his soulful sound and lyrics, quickly becoming a favorite in the online music community.
Known for his smooth vocals and evocative songwriting, Karri has also paid homage to fellow Fil-Am artist Jeremy Passion by covering the fan-favorite song “Lemonade” in two versions last year. Now, the San Francisco artist is back with his latest single, “Chasing U.”
The release of “Chasing U” marks the beginning of a new era for Karri, one that emphasizes a deeper commitment to him as a songwriter. This track embodies his evolving artistry and his ability to connect with listeners on a much personal level.
Taking to Instagram to promote his new single, Karri shared a video of himself surrounded by children on a street in the Philippines, all enjoying the new track. He captioned the post, “Wit the youngbulls. Chasing u out now,” and included some of the song’s lyrics: “Call it what, you want it babe / is it lust or is it fate / through the fire, you stayed the same / you got a flame I couldn’t tame / fireflies they in the rain / telling me I gotta stay with you / chasing you is all I do.”

The Fil-Am artist even humorously added in the comments, “These bad ass kids bra,” followed by a laughing emoji.
Behind the music, “Chasing U” features production contributions from Grammy award-winning producer Olovson and Count Bassy, among others.
Moreover, the lyrics delve into themes of love, desire and the relentless pursuit of a meaningful connection. The song appears to be about the complexities of a romantic relationship, particularly the intense pursuit and emotional turmoil that can come with it. The lyrics suggest a mix of longing and uncertainty, exploring whether the feelings involved are rooted in genuine love or something less enduring like lust.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Karri had a trip to the Philippines. He shared glimpses of his journey on social media, including snaps with the Mayon Volcano in Albay as the backdrop, captioning, “been gone for a minute” with one user commenting, “Confirmed he is Pinoy.”
