Fil-Am twins impress coaches with One Direction hit on ‘The Voice’
We’ve definitely heard a lot of renditions of One Direction’s 2013 hit “Story of My Life.” From production numbers and YouTube covers to singing competitions, it brings back all the nostalgia from our 1D era.
And when you sing a One Direction song, you can never really go wrong. Its latest addition are Filipino American twins who not only got one chair turned but three in the 25th season of the renowned reality competition show “The Voice.”
During Tuesday night’s episode, the Bay Area twins Justin and Jeremy Garcia earned a three-chair turn from Dan + Shay, Chance the Rapper and Reba McEntire with Jeremy showcasing his keyboard skills and Justin leading the vocals, seamlessly harmonizing throughout the chorus.
The judges were quick to show their enthusiasm, with Chance the Rapper hitting his button just eight seconds into the performance.
The “Cocoa Butter Kiss” artist commended the twins as super developed but also pointed out moments in the performance where they faltered in pitch before swiftly regaining control.
Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay also praised the twins after the song number, expressing, “That was a fantastic performance. From the first time I heard you guys harmonizing, and I found out that it was two people, I was like, ‘We have to turn around. This is amazing.’”
Following their blind audition, the twins, both 17-year-old high school seniors from Millbrae, California, shared that they have been performing together since their freshman year.
Amid a playful exchange between the judges vying to coach them, the Garcias made their decision. They chose the country music duo, Dan + Shay, who are first-time coaches on “The Voice,” to guide them through the competition, citing “a clear reason” why the twins should choose them.
Additionally, the Fil-Am twins are the duo’s first artists ever on the show!
