Fil-Am inmate in Hawaii rearrested after going missing post-work furlough
The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) brought a Filipino-American furlough inmate in Hawaii back to prison after he went missing on Jan. 15.
Twenty-nine-year-old Rogelio Cabebe III failed to return to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center, part of the Oahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) on Monday afternoon after being issued a one-day work furlough pass. A local news outlet in Oahu picked up on the active search for Cabebe, detailing Hawaii law enforcement officials’ alert on the missing inmate.
According to an updated HPD release, Cabebe was located and rearrested in the Ewa Beach area. “On Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, at approximately 4:55 a.m., HPD officers located Cabebe in the Ewa Beach area and placed him under arrest.” He is currently serving a 10-year sentence for felony robbery.
Cabebe was first convicted in connection to a second-degree robbery case on Apr. 3, 2019. At the time, he was simultaneously on probation for a third-degree theft case in 2018.
Cabebe is now the third Oahu inmate in three weeks to flee from custody and fail to return to the facility. His recent escape will reap additional charges.
