Now under new management following a June sale to Dick Clark Productions and the dissolution of the scandal-scarred Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes marks the official opening of the 2024 Hollywood awards season.

Organizers of the newly reformed Golden Globes hope that a “Barbenheimer” love-in can help to revitalize Hollywood’s famously fun-loving but scandal-dogged awards gala.

The show is expected to celebrate “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”— two movies that wowed critics and audiences alike when they were released simultaneously last summer, and have a whopping 17 nominations between them.

“They are so different than each other, yet they were both successful… We’re thrilled that they’re both very represented here,” said this year’s Globes producer Glenn Weiss.

Filipino American actor and comedian Jo Koy, who will be the host,  joined Golden Globes producers on Thursday in the ceremonial red carpet rollout at the Beverly Hilton ahead of the awards show on Sunday.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will air live on Sunday, Jan. 7 on CBS, streamed on Paramount+ and will be available on the CBS app, starting at 5 p.m. PT (8-11 p.m. ET). (With CNS report)
