Celebrations are in order as renowned Filipino chef Myke “Tatung” Sarthou’s cookbook, “Simpol Dishkarte,” bagged a win at the World Gourmand Awards, likening the experience to winning the coveted Miss Universe crown in a post that humorously assures, “pero wala pong lutuang naganap sa laban na ito.”

On a more reflective tone, the Filipino chef and TV personality expressed his deep gratitude for being honored with the 2023 Best Celebrity Chef Book in the World, an accolade from the World Gourmand Awards.

“Allow me to express my deepest gratitude for the honor of having received the 2023 Best Celebrity Chef Book in the World, a grand award bestowed by the prestigious World Gourmand Awards,” chef Tatung wrote on his Instagram post.

The chef went on to extend heartfelt thanks to the organization for recognizing “Simpol Dishkarte” among the entries from 205 countries. He conveyed the humbling experience of being acknowledged and emphasized his gratitude for the opportunity to share his passion for cooking with a global audience.

“Creating ‘Simpol Dishkarte’ was a labor of love, and receiving this award validates the countless hours of dedication and hard work that went into its production. This achievement proves that hard work and perseverance do pay off,” chef Tatung shared.

Reflecting on the initial skepticism surrounding the project, he highlighted the book’s journey from doubt to dual triumphs: first, the Filipino Readers Choice Award, and now, the international recognition.

“All this would have been difficult to achieve if I had been alone. And so, I am deeply thankful to everyone who contributed to the success of the cookbook; from the talented team who collaborated on the project, and to the supporters who have been with me every step of the way.”

This isn’t the first time chef Tatung’s culinary creations have received international acclaim. In 2017, his “Philippine Cookery: From Heart to Platter” was honored with the title of “Best TV Chef Book Outside Europe” at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Furthermore, his “Simpol: The Cookbook” showcased his consistent excellence by winning the Best Book by a Celebrity Chef and the Easy Cookbook awards at the 2021 World Gourmand Awards in Paris.

Looking ahead, chef Tatung affirmed his commitment to contributing to the world of culinary arts and expressed a desire to inspire others as he himself has been inspired throughout his career.
